It's Not Fair!
It was dark and damp.
It was small and packed.
It was busy and crowded.
A spider had been pushed and squashed into a corner.
The spider wished very hard to leave this place.
'Please let me get out of here!'
Truly, a silky string came down all the way from the sky.
He grabbed the string.
Up and up he was crawling high.
He was almost there - just one more crawl.
Suddenly, he wanted to see his old place one last time.
He looked down.
Oh no!
There were a bunch of his neighbours were hanging onto the thin string trying to climb up too.
The spider was angry.
'It's not fair!'
He thought. He was the one who wished for something to save him. Not them!
'GET OFF' shouted spider.
Nobody was listening as they were busy fighting with each other to get onto the string.
The spider looked up. The string was stretched tightly.
'GET OFF, the string was going to snap!"
Nobody paid attention to the spider. In fact, more insects were joining into the group. The weight was getting heavier and heavier.
The spider looked up and down and up and down getting very nervous.
'STOOOOOOOOOOOP' he waved at the crowd and shouted loudly.
As he shook his legs the string swung. The string was getting thinner and thinner, and it snapped!
'Nooooooo!' the spider screamed all the way down to the floor.
Everyone fell back down to the ground where they used to live.
(Illustration: everyone puzzled with innocent faces.)
Dark and damp. Small and packed. Crowded and busy.
Oh.
Then everyone scurried back home.
The spider was left alone with a piece of string.
(Illustration: still hanging somewhere by the string.)
He sighed and sighed.
He crawled sluggishly back to his old place.
Strangely, the string stuck to his bottom and made a trace of the spider.
He couldn't take it off. He walked, ran, jumped but it was still there.
(Illustration: a fly was passing and caught by its trace... buzzing...)
The spider looked at the fly and looked at the string.
‘Oh, that's something new.’
The spider wrapped the fly and took it with him.
But there was no place for the spider to have his dinner.
He looked around.
A corner of the ceiling caught his eyes.
He crawled up there and moved from side to side.
‘Oh, this is something new.’
He laid down the fly and then he lie down on his cozy web.
'It's not fair you eat me.' said the fly.
The spider looked at the fly, then he closed his eyes.
'Yep, I know, ' said the spider.
