"온다!"

시야에 순간 번쩍이는가 했더니 먼지를 날리며 사방에서 환경물질 수집용 전천후 드론들이 날아와 순차적으로 분석 스테이션에 도킹한다.

착륙 허가 승인을 초조히 기다리는 사이 MassICT (1) 마크가 번쩍거리는 분석장비로부터 전송된 질량분석 데이터들이 모선 주 모니터에 올라오기 시작한다.

수백 개의 물질 구조 및 함량정보가 올라오면서 함장의 눈빛은 점점 날카로워지는 듯하다.

"대충 초록불인 거 보니까 안전한 듯한데요?" 조금이라도 가벼운 우주복을 입고 나가고 싶은 수색대원의 한마디.

"음.. 일단 끝까지 봅시다."

왼쪽으로 45도 정도 기울어진 B글자의 한가운데 초록색 화살표가 꽂혀있는 심볼(symbol)이 그려진 버튼을 함장은 연신 문지르며 신중한 모습이다.

그걸 지켜보던 신참 수색대원이 못 마땅한 듯 귓속말로 선배에게 묻는다. "아니, 곧 밤이 올 텐데 자꾸 시간을 끄는 건 무슨 심보예요? 그런데, 저기 만지작 거리는 버튼은 뭐죠?"

 "쉿, 조용히 말해.. 저건 'Biological Target Standard. Inc.' (2) 회사의 심볼인데 분석한 물질들이 인체의 어떤 생체물질에 결합해서 어떤 영향을 주는지 분석하는 전문회사라고 하더라고. 이번 탈 우주복 프로젝트에 참가했다는 얘기를 들었어."

"어차피 지난주에 설치 완료한 플라스마 EMF 실드 안에서 임무 수행할 텐데, 뭐하러.." "삐 삐.."

그 순간 적색경보와 함께 모니터 위에 비친 특이 구조 물질들이 3개가 비쳤다. 즉시, 기내 가운데  버츄얼 모니터 상에서 각각의 물질들의 3차원 구조와  함께 간, 신장 및 폐 특이적 단백질에 결합하며 그 치명도가 73, 82 그리고 93%로  나타났다.

"수색대원들은 잠시 대기. 김 박사는 DTSI 작동시켜 주세요."

"네 알겠습니다. 최대 유지시간은요?"

"음 12시간 작업이니까, 최소 3배 이상 유지할 수 있도록 고려해 주세요."

신참이 물었다. "DTSI가 뭐예요? 그리고 뭘 유지하는 거예요?"

 "거 참.. 좀 기다려봐. 곧 알게 될 거야."

김박사는 서편 벽면에 있는 KS심볼 가운데 초록색 약물이 그려진 모양의 버튼을 눌렀다. 옆에 화면에는 'Drug target Standard Index' (3)라고 뜨고 '중화 물질' 서치 알림이 뜬 뒤 엄청난 속도의 정보들이 화면 위를 스치며 지나갔다.

5분 뒤 세 개의 물질에 대한 가장 적합한 중화 물질들이 각각 추천되고 다시 이들 세 가지의 배합량의 계산이 진행된 후 '36시간 유지' 항목에서 멈춰 섰다.

 "김박사. 다 됐어?.. 시간이 다 되어 가는데."

김박사는 초록색 약 캡슐이 그려진 스위치를 올리면서

"네, 일단 적합 성분은 찾았고 마지막으로 우리 대원들 생체정보에 따라 맞게 제조하고 있습니다. 3분 이면 됩니다."

"오케이, 대원들은 우주복 중 가장 슬립 한 형태의 z-3을 착용한다. 지금 지급되는 약 복용 후 체내 흡수 대기 시간 대기  후 슈트 오른 손목 초록 시그널이 나오면 감압실로 이동한다. 약효 유지시간은 36시간이지만 임무 수행 후 즉시 복귀하도록!"

감압실 안.

"와. 이런 게 되네요. 지구에서는 그냥 동물실험 안 하는 천연물 제약회사로만 알고 있었는데.. 그런데 저 회사 이름 줄이면 BTS인데 지금까지 어떻게 버텄대요? 하이브에 허락은 받았나?"

"ㅋㅋ, 안 그래도 아미들한테 혼날까 봐 무서워서 아내 이름으로 상표등록했다던데.."

그때 조용히 듣던 한 흰 수염 지긋 한 수색요원이 말했다.

"그 회장이 회사 그만두기 전에 사업 배워 보겠다고 주식 코인으로 돈 날리고 부동산 잘못 투자해서 빚으로 고생고생했는데,  그 사람의 철학과 진심을 이해한 멋진 투자자 [       ]들이 나타나서 해결해주고 지금까지 지켜주고 있어서 가능했다고 한다네.. 아마도 그들을 "goldenlion on lotus"(4)라고 부른다지.."

"연꽃 위의 황금사자.. 네요. 그럼 BTS는 연꽃.."

그때 스피커로 울리는 출동 소리와 함께 석양 직전 비치는 태양 빛이 열린 출입구 사이로 비춰 들어온다.

"선배님은 어떻게 그 회사에 대해서 그렇게 잘 아세요?"

그는 아무 말 없이 엷은 미소와 함께
