싸이먼&가펑클의 명곡입니다.

싸이먼&가펑클의 노래 중에서는 가장 좋아하는 노래인데요, 이 노래를 들을 때면,

내 어린 시절의 추억이 우울하고 아련한 기타 연주와 감미로운 목소리를 타고 아련히 떠오릅니다.

옛 생각이 나게 해주는 음악이면

인생의 음악으로 나름 괜찮지 않나요^^

이 노래를 처음 들은 것은

초등학생 시절, 다 낡은 카세트를 통해서 였습니다. 그냥 기타 소리, 싸이먼&가펑클의 목소리가 너무 좋아서 되지 않는 억지 발음으로 열심히 따라 불렀던 기억이 납니다.

그 시절을 지나 고3 때 영어 선생님 중 한 분이

이 노래 가사를 그 시대 배경과 곁들여서 꼼꼼하게

설명을 해주셨던 기억이 있는데요,

한 마디로, 참 쓸쓸하고 우울하면서 철학적인 노래더군요. (찬찬히 들으면서 가사를 읽다 보면 말 그대로 시를 읽는 것 같습니다)

예를 들어 아래와 같은 가사는

People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share

흔히 쓰는 talk, speak, hear, listen 등의 단어를

심층적으로 사용하는데 그 깊이가 대단합니다.

뭐랄까요, 느낌은 팍 오는데 말로 설명하기 어렵다고나 할까요?

영화 'Watchman'의 장례식 장면에서 이 노래가 흐르는데요, 개인적으로 참 좋아하는 영화 OST 이기도 합니다. 그 분위기를 설명하는데 이만한 노래가 없지요.
