무더운 여름이 서서히 물러가려고 있었다. 매미는 모든 플라타너스 나무에서 울고 있었다. 이때에 민국이가 잠자리채를 들고 달리고 있었다. 민숙이가 민국이를 따라오며 소리쳤다.
“오빠야~ 천천히 가자! 힘들다.”
“천천히 온나! 가시나야~”
“가시나가 뭐꼬? 민숙이다.”
“알것다. 좀만 가면 작은 개울이 있다.”
“작은 개울? 와 가노?”
“거기 가면 잠자리가 많다.”
“정말이가?”
“맞다.”
민국은 뒤돌아보지도 않고 곧장 작은 개울로 갔다. 곧이어 민숙이도 왔다.
“오빠야~ 물 위에 잠자리가 많다.”
“보이제~ 잠자리들이 물 위에 알 까는 거다.”
“와~ 신기하다.”
“준비해라이, 내가 많이 잡아주마!”
민국은 바지가랑을 올리고는 물에 들어갔다. 그리고 물 위로 날아다니는 잠자리들을 민국은 잠자리채로 좌우로 이동하며 잠자리를 잡았다. 민숙은 잠자리 통을 열어서는 오빠가 잡은 잠자리들을 집어넣었다. 민숙은 잠자리 통 안을 들여다보았다. 잠자리들이 팔락거리며 서로 야단이었다. 그러던 민숙이가 높은 나뭇가지 끝에 빨간 잠자리가 앉아 있는 것을 보았다.
“오빠야~ 저기 봐라! 나뭇가지 끝에 빨간 잠자리가 앉았다.”
“응? 고추잠자리이다. 민숙아~ 팔을 쭉 뻗고 손가락 하나를 세워봐라!”
“왜?”
“그러면 고추잠자리가 손가락 끝에 앉을 거다.”
“정말?”
민숙은 오빠의 말대로 팔을 높이 뻗고는 둘째 손가락을 세웠다. 그러자 정말로 고추잠자리가 그녀의 둘째 손가락 끝에 날아와 앉았다. 그녀는 꼼짝 않고 소리쳤다.
“오빠야~ 내 손가락에 고추잠자리가 앉았다. 어떡해!”
“천천히 눈앞으로 가까이해봐라!”
“어머, 어머나, 잠자리가 머리를 이리저리 움직인다. 날 보는 거 같다.”
“재밌지? 잠자리는 아래를 못 본다. 다른 손을 밑으로 해서 가만히 잡아봐라!”
“오빠야~ 잡았다. 정말 못 보나? 귀엽다.”
“고추잠자리는 니가 잡은 기다. 통에 넣어라!”
“싫다~. 놔줄란다. 불쌍타!”
“불쌍타? 그럼 통속에 있는 잠자리는 안 불쌍카나?”
“맞다. 다 놓아줄란다.”
민숙은 잠자리 통 속에 있는 잠자리들까지 모두 놓아주었다. 잠자리들은 고맙다는 듯이 그녀의 머리 위를 빙빙 돌다가 멀리 날아가 버렸다. 고추잠자리는 그녀의 머리 위에 앉았다가 날아갔다.
“잘했다. 잠자리는 좋은 벌레야! 모기나 파리 등 해로운 벌레를 잡아먹는다.”
“정말? 착하구나~ 모기, 파리 많이 잡아먹으라!”
민숙은 하늘을 날아다니는 잠자리들에게 손을 흔들어 주었다. 결국 민국과 민숙은 빈 잠자리 통을 들고 뭐가 신나는지 깡충깡충 걸으며 집으로 돌아갔다.

Red Dragonfly [고추잠자리]
The hot summer was slowly receding. The cicadas were crying in all the platanus trees.
At this time, Minguk was running with a gragonfly net. Minsuk followed Minguk and shouted.
"Take your time. I'm tired."
"Take your time, Gashina!"
"What's that? Gashina? My name is Minsuk."

Minguk went into the water with his pants pulled up. And Minguk caught a dragonfly flying on the water moving from side to side with a dragonfly net. Minsuk put the dragonfly that her brother caught in the dragonfly barrel. Minsuk see into the dragonfly barrel. The dragonflies are flapping with each other. And Minsuk saw a red pepper dragonfly sitting at the end of a tall branch.
"Hey, look over there! There is a red dragonfly sitting at the end of a tree branch."
"Huh? It's a red pepper dragonfly. Minsuk~ Stretch your arms and raise one finger."
"Why?"
"Then red dragonfly will sit on the tip of your finger."
"Really?"
Minsuk stretched her arms high and stood her second finger as her brother said. Then the red dragonfly really flew over the tip of her second finger and sat down. She yelled without moving.
"Oppa~ There's a red dragonfly on my finger. What should I do!"
"Slowly take it close to your eyes!"
"Oh, my God, the dragonfly is shaking its head from side to side. It's like looking at me."
"Funny, right? Dragonflies don't look down. Slowly down with the other hand and catch it!"
"Hey, I caught it. He really cn't see it? It's cute."
"You've got the red pepper dragonfly. Put it in the barrel."
"No, I want to send it. I'm sorry."
"Pity? Then you don't feel sorry for the dragonfly in the barrel."
"All right. I'll send out them all."
Minsuk released all the dragonflies in the barrel. The dragonflies thanked her and circled over her head and flew away. The red dragonfly sat on her head and flew away.
"Well done, Dragonflies are good insects. They eat harmful insects such as mosquitoes and flies."
"Really? A good insect~ Eat lots of mosquitoes and flies!"
Minsuk waved to a dragonfly that was flying in the sky. Eventually, Minguk and Minsuk took only an empty dragonfly barrel and hopped home to see if something was exciting. In the end, Minguk and Minsuk seemed excited as they hopped home with only empty barrel.
