Intro

[ Cheesecake is a bit pricey ]

Sarah worked in a café. It was a quiet day. A woman came in, wearing old clothes. She sat and looked at the menu for a long time. She also looked at her money.

The woman asked, "Can I have a coffee?"

Sarah said, "Regular coffee or with milk?"

The woman was silent.

So, Sarah said, "One with milk for you."

The woman pointed at a yellow cake and asked, "Excuse me, How much is it?"

Sarah answered, "That cheesecake is 30,000 won."

The woman said, "That's expensive!"

Another person came in. The woman said to the new customer, "You can go first." But Sarah was already making coffee for her.

Sarah wanted to help. She said, "You can get a small piece for 7,000 won."

The woman was happy and said, "I'll take it!"

Sarah said, "That will be 12,000 won please."

The woman sat and looked at the door. Was she waiting for someone?

A man came in. He looked around and saw the woman. They talked. Sarah could hear them because the cafe is quiet.

The man said, "Why here? It's expensive..."

The woman said, "It's a special day today. It's OK that we are here."

The woman showed him the cake and said, "This is for your birthday. I also have a candle. I got this for free." She put the candle on the cake.

The man smiled and said, "Thank you, Thanks to you, we're having a birthday here. And we have the birthday cake." He looked very happy.

Sarah was happy to see the couple. She brought them an extra fork and a straw for the cake and coffee.

[ Cheesecake is a bit pricey ]

Sarah worked in a café. It was a slow time with only a few people. She saw a woman walk in, wearing old clothes. The woman looked around, sat down, and took a long time looking at the menu. She also checked her money a lot. Sarah thought maybe the woman didn't come to cafés often.

The woman came to the counter and asked, "Can I have a coffee?"

Sarah replied, "Would you like a regular coffee? An americano or a café latte?"

The woman didn't answer right away.

So, Sarah said, "I'll make one with milk for you."

The woman then pointed to a yellow cake and asked, "How much is this?"

Sarah told her, "That cheesecake is 30,000 won."

The woman looked surprised and said, "Cheesecake is a bit pricey!"

Another person walked in just then. The woman told him, "You can order first." But Sarah was already entering the woman's order.

Sarah was a little annoyed but wanted to help, so she said, "You can buy a small piece for 7,000 won."

The woman's eyes lit up, and she replied, "That's great! I'll take the coffee and the small cake." Sarah told her the total price was 12,000 won.

The woman sat down with her order.

She looked at the door a lot. Maybe she was waiting for someone? Sarah thought the woman looked older because of her clothes, even though her face was young.

After a while, a man walked in. He looked around like he didn't come to cafés often either. He saw the woman and walked over. They started to talk, and Sarah could hear them, as the café was quiet.

The man asked, "Why meet up here? It seems expensive here."

The woman smiled and said, "Sometimes it's nice to go to special places."

She showed him the cake and said, "Look, I got this for your birthday. I got a candle for nothing at the bakery. I couldn't afford a whole cake there, but here they sell  a slice. So, I bought one. There's only one candle," the woman said as she put it on the cake."

The man looked at the women and said with a smile, "Thank you. Thanks to you, we're having a birthday here. It's been forever since the last birthday cake."He looked very happy.

Sarah felt warm inside seeing that couple. She gave them an extra fork so they could share the cake and a cup of coffee together.

[ Cheesecake is a bit pricey ]

Sarah worked as a café clerk during a slow time when there weren't many customers.

Then, a woman in shabby clothes entered the coffee shop, appearing somewhat unfamiliar with the environment.

Sarah watched her as she hesitated, sat down, and glanced at the menu, checking her cash as if she didn't have a credit card.

Eventually, she approached the counter.

"Can I take your order?"

Sarah asked.

The woman simply replied, "A hot cup of coffee."

Sarah sought clarification, "Sure, what kind of coffee would you like? An americano or a café latte?"

The woman remained silent.

Sarah said, "I'll make you a café latte."

Sarah wondered if it was the woman's first time in a café.

"Excuse me. How much is this?" the woman asked, pointing at a dessert.

"Are you referring to the yellow one? The cheesecake is priced at 30,000 won."

The woman seemed a bit taken aback, saying, "Wait a minute... Cheesecake is a bit pricey."

Meanwhile, another customer entered the shop and stood in line behind her.

The woman kindly gestured, "Please, you can order first."

Sarah felt a bit frustrated since she had already started preparing the woman's order.

"Miss, you can have a slice of cheesecake for 7,000 won," Sarah suggested.

The woman's face lit up, and she exclaimed, "Really? I'll have a café latte and a slice of cheesecake then." Sarah said, "That'll be 12,000 won in total."

Sarah handed the coffee and cake to the woman.

The woman kept glancing at the door as if she was waiting for someone. The woman appeared to be in her 30s or 40s. Although her face didn't look that old, her worn-out and wrinkled clothes made her seem much older.

Sarah worried that other customers might be displeased with the woman's presence.

At that time, a man entered the café, looking around as if it were his first time in a coffee shop, too. He noticed the woman and approached her.

Sarah could overhear their conversation since the café was small and had few customers.

The woman greeted the man with a warm smile.

The man responded somewhat bluntly, "Why did you ask me to meet you in a place such as this? It may be too expensive..."

"It's okay for us to come to places like this every now and then."

The woman reassured him, "We also can enjoy eating out once in a while."

The woman smiled faintly and said, "I bought a cake for your birthday. I managed to get a candle for nothing from the bakery. I couldn't afford a whole cake there, but here they sell individual slices at a lower price. So, I bought one. There's only one candle," the woman explained as she placed the candle on the cheesecake.

The man remained silent, gazing at the woman.

After a while, he turned to the woman and said, "Thank you. Thanks to you, we're having a birthday celebration here. I can't remember the last time I had a birthday cake."

The woman said, "Let's come to places like this sometimes to celebrate." "That sounds great," the man agreed.

Sarah felt touched for some reason as she observed the couple.

She felt a mix of sympathy and joy for the woman.

Sarah brought them extra forks and a straw, allowing them to share a cup of café latte and a slice of cheesecake.
