눈 인터뷰 22

치앙마이에서 만난 눈, 그 다섯 번째 이야기입니다.

이 눈도 앞선 눈들과 같은 장소에서 만났어요. 싱잉볼 수업을 하면서 연결된 눈이에요.

실습을 할 때 가장 많이 만난 눈이기도 하고요.

이 눈이 제게 들려준 메시지예요.

Good Job.
너의 존재에 대한 믿음, 그게 숨을 쉬게 해.

그녀의 싱잉볼 소리는 부드러운데 확신이 있는 움직임을 느끼게 해 주었어요.

'내가 이걸로 이 사람을 편안하게 해 줄 수 있을까. 오히려 이 사람의 고요함을 방해하는 건 아닐까.'  

제가 초반에 싱잉볼을 대할 때마다 드는 생각이었어요. 눈을 감고 누워있는 사람을 보며 오히려 겁이 났어요.

그런데 그녀는 얄미울 정도로 확신이 있었어요. 그 공간과 시간을 자신의 리듬대로 장악하고 자기 할 일을 집중해서 할 뿐이었죠. 이미 자신의 분야에 싱잉볼을 쓰고 있는 그녀에게 모든 배움은 확신 다음의 것을 위한 연습 같았어요. 같이 배우고 있는 입장이지만 선생님 같기도 했어요. 수도 없이 만져보고 쳐보고 사람들에게 제대로 주기 위해 치열하게 고민하는 과정을 지난 사람에게 '확신'은 어쩌면 당연히 따라오는 선물 같아요.

자신의 인생에서 일어난 고통이나 시련에서 우리는 가장 절실한 질문이 생겨요. 그게 클수록 그 답을 하겠다는 치열함은 더 커지겠죠. 피하지 않고 마주하고 해결할 때 그 과정에서 상대에게 줄 수 있는 가장 좋은 선물을 발견하지 않나 생각합니다. 치열하게 고민하고 자신의 기쁨으로 발견한 그건 가장 익숙하고 편안한 느낌으로 상대에게 전달된다고 느꼈습니다. 그녀와 함께 한 시간이 저에게 알려준 선물입니다.

덕분에 저도 상대에게 줄 수 있는 가장 좋은 선물, 거기에 대한 확신이 더 생겼어요. 

나를 가장 나답게 만들었던 그것, 그래서 지금 이렇게 쓰고 있습니다.

마지막으로 멋진 이름 다시 한번 불러드릴게요.

The Eyes I Met in Chiang Mai, the Fifth Story.

This eye, too, I met at the same place as the previous ones. It's the eye connected while taking a singing bowl class. It's also the eye I encountered most often during practice.

This eye gave me a message like this 

Good Job.
The faith in your existence, that's what allows others to breathe.

Her singing bowl sound was gentle yet with a confident movement.

'I wondered if I could make this person comfortable with it. Or perhaps, wouldn't it disturb this person's tranquility instead?'

That was the thought that occurred to me every time I dealt with the singing bowl initially. I was actually scared looking at someone lying down with their eyes closed.

However, she was so confident to the point of being enviable. She just controlled that space and time in her own rhythm, focusing on her own tasks. To her, already using the singing bowl in her field, all learning seemed like practice for what comes after confidence. Although we were in the position of learning together, she also seemed like a teacher. 'Confidence' to someone who has been through the process of countless touchings, hits, and agonizing over giving it properly to people, may naturally follow like a gift.

When the most urgent questions arise from the pain or trials in our lives, the intensity to answer them will grow. I think when we face it without avoidance and resolve it, we discover the best gift we can give to others in that process. I feel that what we are discovering through intense contemplation and joy in ourselves is being conveyed to others in the most familiar and comfortable way. The time spent with her was a gift that taught me.

Thanks to her, I gained the confidence to give the best gift I can give to others. It was what made me most like myself, so I write now.

Another gift this eye gave me. It's a lovely wallet bought from the Jing Jai Market! Hope our wallet earns a lot of money. So that we can do what we love for a long time.
