Writing is the most difficult part for me.
나에게는 쓰기가 가장 어렵다.
I have two main reasons.
크게 두 가지 이유가 있다.
First, I'm terrible at remembering the spelling of words.
첫째, 나는 단어의 철자 외우기를 정말 못한다.
I might know the pronunciation and usage of a word
단어의 발음이나 용법은 알지 몰라도
but I often struggle with the correct order of the letters.
그 글자들의 순서 올바르게 배열하는 것은 힘들다.
That's why I can speak a sentence well, but it's hard to write it down.
문장을 잘 말하지만 적기는 어려운 이유이다.
Second, there are different ways to say and write English.
둘째, 말하는 영어와 적는 영어는 방식이 다르다.
I mean, spoken language and written language are totally different,
다시 말하자면, 구어체와 문어체가 완전히 다르다.
so I have to practice them in different ways.
따라서 나는 다른 방식으로 두 가지를 연습해야 한다.
I think writing is more time-consuming than other parts.
다른 부분에 비해 ‘쓰기’가 시간이 많이 걸린다.
1. 'Difficult'와 의미가 거의 같은 표현 (기본)
Hard: 'Difficult'와 거의 동일하며 조금 더 구어체적인 표현
예: The test was very hard.
(시험이 매우 어려웠어.)
Tough [tʌf]: 'Hard'와 비슷하지만, '힘든', '까다로운', '만만치 않은' 뉘앙스
예: It was a tough decision to make.
(그건 내리기 힘든 결정이었어.)
예: He is a tough negotiator.
(그는 까다로운 협상가이다.)
2. '노력이 많이 필요해서' 어려운 (도전적인)
Challenging: '어렵지만 해볼 만한', '도전 의식을 자극하는' 긍정적인 느낌의 '어려움'을 말할 때
예: This new project is very challenging.
(이 새 프로젝트는 꽤 어렵지만 해볼 만해.)
Demanding: (시간, 노력, 집중 등을) 많이 '요구하는' 의미의 어려움
예: Being a doctor is a physically and mentally demanding job.
(의사는 육체적으로나 정신적으로 힘든(많은 노력을 요구하는) 직업이다.)
Arduous [ɑ́ːrdʒuəs] / Strenuous [strénjuəs]: '몹시 힘든', '고된'
예: It was an arduous journey through the mountains.
(그것은 산을 통과하는 몹시 힘든 여정이었다.)
3. '복잡해서' 어려운 (이해하기 힘든)
Complicated: 여러 부분이나 단계가 얽혀 있어서 '복잡한' 어려움
예: The instructions for this furniture are too complicated.
(이 가구 설명서가 너무 복잡해.)
Complex: 'Complicated'와 비슷, 여러 요소가 정교하게 얽혀있어 이해하거나 분석하기 어려운 경우
예: It's a complex issue with no easy solution.
(이것은 쉬운 해결책이 없는 복잡한 문제이다.)
Tricky: '까다로운', '교묘한'이란 뜻으로, 실수하기 쉬워서 어려울 때
예: That's a tricky question to answer.
(그건 대답하기 까다로운 질문이네요.)
4. '시작하기 두려울 만큼' 어려운 (버거운)
Daunting [dɔ́ːntiŋ]: 어떤 일이 너무 크거나 어려워 보여서 '버거운', '위압감이 드는'
예: Starting a new business can be a daunting task
(새로운 사업을 시작하는 것은 버거운 일일 수 있다.)
Formidable [fɔ́ːrmidəbl]: (상대나 과제가) 너무 강하거나 커서 '만만치 않은', '어마어마한'
예: We face a formidable challenge.
(우리는 만만치 않은 도전에 직면해 있다.)
5. 문장이나 숙어로 표현하는 '어려움'
It's not easy (to...): '...하는 것은 쉽지 않다.' (difficult를 순화한 표현)
예: It's not easy to learn a new language.
(새로운 언어를 배우는 것은 쉽지 않죠.)
I'm having trouble (-ing / with...): '...하는 데 어려움을 겪고 있다.'
예: I'm having trouble remembering the spelling
(저는 스펠링을 기억하는 데 어려움을 겪고 있어요.)
I'm struggling (with...): '...로 고군분투하고 있다.'
예: I'm struggling with English grammar.
(저는 영어 문법 때문에 고군분투하고 있어요.)
It's easier said than done: '말은 쉽지 (행동은 어렵다).'
예: "You should just quit." / "Well, that's easier said than done."
("그냥 그만둬." / "글쎄, 말처럼 쉽진 않지.")
