Let's take a look at the methods of the study.

This research experimented on whether the information that occurs alongside speech, such as sound and speaker information, supports infants locate regularities in input.

To do this, infants were presented with interleaved Target and Nontarget speech. Half of the infants heard the Target speech produced by a single speaker and the Nontarget speech produced by a different speaker in the "Consistent Speaker condition," while the other half heard both streams alternated between two speakers in the "Variable Speaker condition."

Previous studies suggest that infants often struggle to learn from two structured streams, so we used regularities in the Target speech that are easier for infants to learn (AAB or ABA patterns). The Nontarget speech had no repetitions (CDE), ensuring that the structures of the two streams did not conflict.

In Experiment 1, the Target and Nontarget speech involved unique sets of sounds, providing various cues to help infants distinguish between the two streams. In Experiment 2, we eliminated the phonological differences to see if speaker information alone would support infants' learning.
