驚蟄 [8] / [20]
“Me?”
“Yes, or else what part do you want to work?”
“I haven’t thought about it . . . ”
“I knew it!”
she said brightly.
“If we can work on the same team like before that would be nice.”
Ed and Anna looked at each other. The four of them worked more than a year and half together on the same team, but they’d never seen Cynthia talking that way to Alexander. Even though they were quite drunk, they couldn't help but notice the change of her tone to an affectionate form.
Alexander caught on to their embarrassment, saying,
“Cynthia and I started dating.”
“What?”
It was Ed who was really stunned. Ed glanced at Anna quickly. She just opened her eyes widely, staring at Cynthia and Alexander.
“Wow, what a surprise, man. Congratulations!”
Ed held out his hand to Alexander. Anna forced a smile, but nobody noticed except Ed. After awhile, Ed asked Alexander to smoke outside. Cynthia and Anna were about to reorganize the table.
Ed pulled out a cigarette and lit up.
“Alex, don’t you know that Anna likes you?”
Ed asked him.
“What?”
This time Alexander was stunned. This was an entirely unexpected comment from him.
“I do. I know because she is the one that I love.”
“I can’t understand. How could she love me?”
Alexander was really confused. It seemed crazy. He hadn't even noticed Anna showing him any signs that she felt any way toward him besides friendship.
"She's had a thing for you for awhile,"
Ed added.
"Did she tell you this?”
Alexander asked him, still confused.
"How do you know she feels this way about me?"
"She never told me,” he said, sighing,
“I can just tell. I think it's pretty obvious, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who's noticed it."
