秋分 [2] / [6]
He saw the date it was sent. Two days before. He started to search for the very number from which it was sent. After a while, he figured it out.
A prepaid which went inactive the same day the messages came. No information about the previous user. It happened sometimes. Alexander put the documents down. This is one of the nastiest cases he ever dealt with. He felt as if he was trying in vain to put the pieces of a different puzzle together with others that fit an entirely different picture. He also couldn't trust Violet's tears entirely. He should find the truth, and see how it plays out.
He came back home with an exhausted mind. He saw the kitchen. There were two bowls of mushy noodles. It seemed that she also didn't eat. He couldn't even think about eating either, let alone cleaning up. He quickly took a shower, and got into the room.
Cynthia was sleeping, but awakened when she felt him. She kissed his neck, and tried to make him erect. His head was messed up with various things mingled in his thoughts. He gently rejected her touching.
"'I'm tired, honey. Not today."
She detached herself from him slowly, and he fell asleep even before he noticed.
As the day cracked on, he called Violet to confirm the next interview. He didn't want Violet to keep dragging him on.
"When do you want to be interviewed? Tell me the date and time beforehand. Let's make an appointment,"
he said when she answered the phone.
"I'm in a very bad mental condition. Give me some time. Do you know how dreadful it is to reminiscence about the memory of what happened? It demands a lot from me. By the way, did you find the user of that phone number?"
"Not yet. I'm still searching."
"Then should I continue just to live with these threats hanging over my head?"
"I'm doing my best. You should give me as much information as possible."
"You blame me as if you cannot catch them because of me,"
she said in a dark voice,
"everybody blames victims, always."
"I'm not blaming you, listen―"
But she didn't listen to him. She hung up the phone. He was tired, pissed off, and was increasingly aware of the fact that he was being pissed on by Violet. She was manipulating him, he was definitely sure of that now, and although he said he would never allow her to gain any measure of control over him again, she used his sympathies regarding what happened to her as leverage to reinsert herself into his life again.
