1980년대 중후반에 미국 십대 아이들의 마음을 사로잡았던 두 명의 여자가수들이 있었습니다. 이들도 당시 teenager 였고 이들의 노랫말과 이미지는 그 시대의 pop culture 의 한 가닥을 차지하고 있지요.
Tiffany 와 Debbie Gibson 입니다. 이들은 가히 two monumental towers 로, 이 두 명 외엔 이쪽 genre 에서는 따라올 가수가 아예 없었습니다. 물론 Whitney Houston, Paula Adbul, Cindy Lauper, Tina Turner, Madonna 도 있었지만, 다른 류였지요. 같은 pop 에 속했지만 영역이 달랐습니다 - 뭐랄까, 십대의 순수함과 열정을 부른 가수는 이 둘 뿐이었지요, IMHO.
Tiffany 의 대표곡들 중 하나인 "All This Time" 입니다. 가사도 쉽고, 발음도 명확하고, 뮤직비디오 또한 이야기가그 누구라도 이해하기 쉽고 연계할 수 있지요. 순수했던 (relatively speaking) 시절이었습니다.
