어두운 밤을 순순히 받아들일까?

지나가는 생각들

by Rumi

Dylan Marlais Thomas, born October 27, 1914, in South Wales, was the archetypal Romantic poet of the popular American imagination.

영국 사우스 웨일즈에서 1914년 10월 27일에 태어난 Dylan Marlais Thomas는 미국의 낭만주의 시인이었습니다. 그의 많은 시들 중 "Do not go gentle into that good night"라는 작품이 많은 사람들의 심금을 울렸지요.

영화로운 과거의 추억들,

현실의 잔인함, 그리고

미래의 희망이 교차하는 지금 -

이 시를 떠올려 봅니다. 문학은 원어 그대로 읽어야 하겠지요.

Do not go gentle

into that good night,

Old age should burn and rave

at close of day;

Rage, rage against

the dying of the light.

Though wise men

at their end know

dark is right,

Because their words had forked

no lightning they

Do not go gentle

into that good night.

Good men,

the last wave by,

crying how bright

Their frail deeds

might have danced

in a green bay,

Rage, rage

against the dying of the light.

Wild men

who caught and sang

the sun in flight,

And learn, too late,

they grieved it

on its way,

Do not go gentle

into that good night.

Grave men, near death,

who see with blinding sight

Blind eyes could blaze

like meteors and be gay,

Rage, rage

against the dying of the light.

And you, my father,

there on the sad height,

Curse, bless, me now

with your fierce tears, I pray.

Do not go gentle

into that good night.

Rage, rage

against the dying of the light.
