서부 가이드와 동부 가이드의 차이. 가이드 자신은 혼자서 운전과 가이드를 동시에 하니 죽겠다고 투덜대지만 여행비 다 주고 제대로 안내를 받지 못하니 화가 난다.
오늘은 안 내리던 눈이 왔다. 갑자기 함박눈이 내려 순식간에 도로를 뒤덮는다. 뉴워크는 뉴저지의 한 도시라고 한다. East Orange라고 쓰여있는 이정표가 보인다. 4시간 정도를 달려 워싱턴 근처에 도착해 육개장과 된장찌개를 먹었다.
오늘 볼 첫 관광은 워싱턴, 하루가 지나고 또 반이 지난 시간에 관광이 시작된 것이다. 가이드는 무슨 말인가 의무감에 사로잡혀 몇 마디 했지만 머릿속에 남는 것은 별로 없다. 굉장히 화가 난다. 서부 가이드 케니 김 씨와 동부 가이드 ***씨는 차이가 있다. 서부 가이드의 professional 한 태도와 일에 대한 자부심, 동부 가이드의 어쩔 수 없는 생계수단으로써의 일을 하는 사람과의 차이.
국회의사당, 스미소니언 박물관중 항공우주박물관 견학(가이드의 설명이 없다. 일정표에는 자유 여행이라고 되어있다면서.), 제퍼슨 기념관, 링컨 기념관, 백악관 견학. 링컨 기념관 앞에서 보면 모뉴먼트 타워가 보이는데 경치가 일품이다.
영화 '포레스트 검프'에서 포레스트와 제니가 만나 포옹했던 곳이 이곳이고 마틴 루터 킹 목사가 'I Have a Dream.'이라는 연설을 한 곳도 이곳이다. 역사적인 곳이다. 국회의사당 내에서는 각 주에서 낸 대표자들의 두상이 있는데 마틴 루터 킹 목사의 것도 있다. 흑백 문제를 평화적으로 해결하려 하고 흑인운동의 지도자였던 그분을 생각해 본다.

The difference between the guides from west coast tour and and east coast tour: This guide complains of hard work and having to drive and guide simultaneously. But I am angry because I didn't get good guide service, although I had paid full travel fare.
It snowed today. It hadn't snowed for a while. The snow all of sudden covered all the streets.
Newark is a city in New Jersey, he said. I can see the road sign with 'East Orange' on it. It's the hometown of Gerald, my admired English teacher. I pass through this town thinking him. "What he is doing now, and where is he?"
We had spicy beef stew and bean paste stew near Washington D.C. after riding for about 4 hours. Finally, Washington D.C. is on today's tour agenda, after a day and a half our trip started. The guide said something in a serious tone of voice, but it didn't register with me. I was very angry. There was a big difference between Kenny Kim, the west coast tour guide and *** , the east coast tour guide. Kenny Kim takes pride in his job, but *** lacks the love for his work.
We visit the Capitol, Flying-Universe Room at the Smithsonian Institute. The guide didn't explain anything, saying that they scheduled a non-guide trip.
We also saw the Jefferson Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial and the White House. You can enjoy the beautiful senery if you see the monument tower in front of the Lincoln Memorial. This is where Forest and Jenny met and kissed in the movie Forest Gump. This is also where Dr. Marthin Luther King Jr. delievered a speech named "I have a dream". This is a very historical place.
Inside the Capitol, you can see the busts of the representatives of each of the states of the United States. And there was also a bust of Reverend Martin Luther King. I thought about the man who led the non-violent civil rights struggle.
