00. 1. 21(금) 루레이 동물
오늘은 새로운 일행 3명이 합세했다. 아침 8시 30분에 Comfort Inn 호텔을 나와 루레이 동굴 구경했다. 세계에서 가장 크다고 하는데 우리의 고수동굴과 큰 차이는 없다. 약간 규모가 더 크다는 것 외엔. 동굴을 관리하는 미국인 할아버지가 있었는데 우리 관광할 때 따라다녔다. (따라다닌 이유가 뭘까? 우리를 감시하려는 걸까?) 같이 다녀주었다고 감사를 하며 우리 가이드는 그에게 1인당 1불씩을 내란다. 내라니 내긴 했지만. 도대체 왜 내야 되는지 이해가 안 간다. 그 할아버지는 한 마디 사양도 없이 당연하다는 듯 팁을 받는다. 필름을 한 통 샀는데 8달러 50센트 (당시의 환율 1달러당 1160원 정도), 한국의 세배다.
점심(햄버거)을 먹고 무작정 달리기 시작하여 나이아가라 캐나다 쪽을 다녀왔다. 순 엉터리, 국경 넘는데 12불인데 여행사 측에선 옵션이라며 30불을 받았었다. 레이저 광선을 쏘아 색이 여러 가지인 폭 포이 모습을 본다고 하더니 도착했을 때는 불이 꺼져 있었다. 미리 시간 측정도 못하고, 불 꺼지는 시간도 생각지 않고 마구잡이식으로 안내를 하는 여행사 측에 화가 난다. 여기가 나이아가라 폭포라고 하는데 밖은 깜깜하고 유리창은 얼어붙어 밖이 보이지 않는다. 다음날 다시 보여달라는 주문을 했고 이곳에서 가장 좋다는 호텔(이름이 뭐지?)에서 묵는다. 여기가 그 유명한 나이아가라?
Jan. 21st, 2000 Cave Ruray
Today, a couple joined our tour. We saw Cave Ruray after leaving the Comfort Inn at 8:30 a.m. They say Ruray is the biggest cave in the world, but it resembles our Gosu Cave, except for its size.
An elderly staff continueously followed me when we toured the cave. Why did that man follow us? Did he try to supervise us? Our guide asked a dollar from each of us to thank him. We just paid without knowing the exact reason. The staff received the tip as if he'd expected it.
I bought a film in the cave. It was costly, 8 dollars and 50 cents. It's three times the price in Korea. (At the time, the exchage rate was 1,160 won per a dollar.)
After a hamberger lunch , we drove nonstop to the Canadian side of the Falls (Niagara, Ontario, Canada). What a sham! The travel agency asked us to pay $30 each, but later I found out it only costs $12 to cross the border. The guide told us that we would see colorful waterfall lit with laser lights, but all the lights were turned off when we arrived at the Falls. I was angry because they had not coordinated our arrival with the light show schedule. Our guide said here is Niagara, but the outside of the car was dark and all the window were frosted up. Because of all that, we couldn't enjoy the Falls. I asked to see the Falls again the next morning, and I stayed the night at a hotel that's supposed to be the best hotel in the area. ( What was the name of the hotel?) This is it? Is this the world-famous Niagara Falls?
