예술은 사이에 산다.
Art Lives in the In-Between
인간은 사이에서 존재한다. 삶의 시작과 끝 사이, 하늘과 땅 사이, 사람과 사람들 사이에서 우리의 존재가 드러난다. 공간은 비어 있고 시간은 보이지 않지만, 바로 그 보이지 않는 시공간에 우리는 명확하게 존재한다. 들숨과 날숨 사이에서 생명이 유지되듯, 우리는 끊임없는 간극과 관계 속에서 살아간다.
시작만 있고 끝이 없었다면 우리는 유한하지도 않았을 것이고, 시간은 끝으로 흐르지 않았을 것이다. 그래서 끝이 있는 우리의 인생은 의미 있는 듯, 또 없는 듯한 애매한 사이에 존재한다. 나와 너의 사이는 물리적으로 비어 있는 것처럼 보이지만, 그 공간은 결코 비어 있지 않다. 우리는 모두 누군가의 사이에, 무언가의 사이에 서 있다.
사람과 사람 사이에는 수많은 대화와 눈빛이 담겨 있고, 나와 세상 사이에도 경험과 감정이 담겨 있다. 떠나간 말 한마디로 관계가 재정의되고, 바라본 웃음 하나로도 관계는 살아나기도 한다. 그렇게 우리는 서로의 사이에 무엇인가를 계속해서 만들어낸다. 떠나간 사람의 존재가 완전히 사라지지 않듯, 물리적 존재가 사라져도 사이에 남은 것은 쉽게 지워지지 않는다.
우리는 이렇게 보이지 않는 사이에 존재하는 영적인 존재다. 예술은 그 사이에서 일어나는 우리를 설명해 내는 언어다. 감정을 일으키고, 기억하게 하고, 이끌어간다. 질문을 던지고, 깨닫게도 한다. 그래서 예술은 잡히지 않는 시간과 보이지 않는 공간 사이에서 살아간다.
안개처럼 피어올랐다 흩어지는 인생을 예술은 안개의 언어로 붙잡는다. 예술은 사이의 언어이며, 그 사이에 얇은 실처럼 여기저기 뻗어간다. 당신이 이 글을 읽으며, 보이지도 않고 만난 적도 없는 나의 내면을 느낄 수 있듯, 예술은 어디든 가고 어디든 닿는다. 그것이 예술의 힘이다.

Art x Shift
Human beings exist in between. Between the beginning and the end of life, between heaven and earth, between one person and another, our existence is revealed. Space is empty and time is invisible, yet within that unseen dimension we clearly exist. Just as life is sustained between each breath in and out, we live within endless gaps and relationships.
If there were only beginnings and no endings, we would not be finite, and time would never move toward its close. Because life has an end, we exist in an ambiguous space that feels both meaningful and meaningless. The space between you and me may appear empty, but it is never truly void. We all stand between someone and something.
Between people, countless conversations and glances are exchanged. Between myself and the world lie experiences and emotions. A single word left behind can redefine a relationship, and a single smile can bring one back to life. In this way, we continue to create something within the spaces between us. Just as the presence of someone who has gone does not vanish completely, what remains between us endures even when the physical presence disappears.
We are spiritual beings who exist in this unseen in-between. Art is the language that explains who we are within it. It stirs emotion, awakens memory, and leads us forward. It asks questions and brings realization. Art lives within the untouchable flow of time and the invisible expanse of space.
As life rises and disperses like mist, art captures it in the language of the mist. Art is the language of the in-between, stretching like a thin thread through every direction. Just as you can sense the unseen depths of my inner world through this text, though we have never met, art can go anywhere and reach everywhere. That is the power of art.

저희는 미술작가 부부로서, 예술을 만나는 방식에 변화를 시도하고자 아트쉬프트를 만들었습니다. 아트쉬프트는 예술이 단순한 결과물에 그치지 않고, 예술과 삶, 작가와 관객이 함께 어우러지는 공간입니다. 작업실, 전시공간, 카페, 굿즈샵이 결합된 이곳은 예술가의 창작 과정과 그 안에 담긴 고민, 서사를 자연스럽게 나누며, 예술이 일상 속에 스며드는 문화를 만들어가고자 합니다.
We created Art x Shift with the intention of transforming the way we as a visual artist couple engage with art. Art x Shift is a space where art goes beyond being a mere outcome, becoming a place where art, life, and the connection between artists and audiences coexist. With a combination of a studio, exhibition space, café, and a shop, this space naturally shares the process of creation, the challenges, and narratives within, while fostering a culture where art seamlessly integrates into everyday life.
