이해할 수 없는 것을 이해하다.
길거리마다 쩌렁쩌렁 울리는 확성기, 천막 아래 끊이지 않는 노래. 그들은 그것이 신의 사랑을 전하는 길이라고 믿는다. 하지만 군중은 감동 대신 소음만 듣는다. 뙤약볕에서 부른 3시간의 찬양은 믿는 자들조차 떠나가게 할 만큼의 피로를 몰고 왔다. 나는 사랑이 왜 이렇게 피곤하게 전해지는지 묻고 싶었다.
우리가 신을 만나는 순간은 확성기에서 흘러나오는 쩌렁쩌렁한 소리가 아니라, 설명할 수 없는 아름다운 창조를 마주할 때이다. 땅에서 자라나는 생명, 생명이 가득한 바다, 어디서 불어오는지 모를 바람. 그 앞에서 영혼은 조용히, 말도 안 되는 것들 속에서 오히려 이해할 수 없음을 이해하게 된다.
기독교는 스스로 죽음을 자각한 자들의 것이다. 인간의 영은 이미 하나님과 단절된 상태다. 그래서 우리는 영적 교감 없이 육체만 의지하며 살아간다. 육의 감각과 욕망으로만 느끼고 판단하기에 죄에서 벗어나지 못한다. 이 한계를 인정할 때 비로소 자신을 죄인이라 부를 수 있다. 구원자는 그런 자에게 절실하다. 아프지 않은 자에게 의사는 필요하지 않다.
십자가는 공포의 상징이 아니다. 대신 죽어 살려야만 했던 그 급한 발걸음, 자식을 향한 애달픔, 배신을 넘어선 보이지 않는 사랑, 끝내 포기하지 않은 사랑이 모두 담긴 자리다. 그러나 이 사랑을 전하지 않고, 마이크로 지옥을 선포한다. 그 소리 속에서 사랑은 왜곡되고 만다.
정말 전해야 할 것은 따로 있다. 우리는 끝내 이해하지 못할, 다 버리고도 내어주려 한 생명이다. 조건 없는 순간, 계산 없는 마음. 그때 비로소 진리를 보고, 죽어도 주고 싶던 마음을 온전히 깨닫는다.

Art x Shift
Loudspeakers blare on every street, songs continue endlessly beneath the tents. They believe this is the way to proclaim God’s love. Yet the crowd hears only noise, not grace. Three hours of praise beneath the blazing sun brought such exhaustion that even believers drifted away. I wanted to ask why love must be delivered in such a wearying way.
The moment we encounter God is not in the deafening voice of a loudspeaker, but when we face the unspeakable beauty of creation. Life rising from the ground, the sea brimming with creatures, the wind whose origin we cannot trace. There, the soul grows still, learning to understand in the very place where understanding fails.
Christianity belongs to those who have come to realize their own death. The human spirit is already severed from God. Thus we live leaning only on the body, without true communion of the spirit. Perceiving and judging solely by the senses and desires of the flesh, we cannot escape sin. Only when we admit this limit can we truly call ourselves sinners. To such people, a Savior becomes indispensable. The healthy have no need of a physician.
The cross is not a symbol of terror. It is the place that holds the hurried steps of One who had to die in our stead, the anguish of a parent for a child, the unseen love that endured betrayal, and the love that refused to give up to the very end. Yet instead of proclaiming this love, the microphone declares hell. In that noise, love is distorted.
What truly must be proclaimed is something else. It is the life that was given even after everything was surrendered. A life offered without condition, a heart poured out without calculation. Only then do we see the truth, and only then do we awaken to the love that longed to give, even unto death.

저희는 미술작가 부부로서, 예술을 만나는 방식에 변화를 시도하고자 아트쉬프트를 만들었습니다. 아트쉬프트는 예술이 단순한 결과물에 그치지 않고, 예술과 삶, 작가와 관객이 함께 어우러지는 공간입니다. 작업실, 전시공간, 카페, 굿즈샵이 결합된 이곳은 예술가의 창작 과정과 그 안에 담긴 고민, 서사를 자연스럽게 나누며, 예술이 일상 속에 스며드는 문화를 만들어가고자 합니다.
We created Art x Shift with the intention of transforming the way we as a visual artist couple engage with art. Art x Shift is a space where art goes beyond being a mere outcome, becoming a place where art, life, and the connection between artists and audiences coexist. With a combination of a studio, exhibition space, café, and a shop, this space naturally shares the process of creation, the challenges, and narratives within, while fostering a culture where art seamlessly integrates into everyday life.
