좋은 소식을 전합니다
Here Is Good News
우리는 자유롭게 선택할 수 있다. 그러나 그 끝은 언제나 결과로 이어진다. 그 결과는 단순히 개인에게만 머무르지 않는다. 부모의 실수는 가정을 흔들고, 지도자의 결정은 수많은 사람의 삶을 바꾼다. 한 나라의 대통령의 판단은 국민 전체를 뒤흔들며, 다른 나라의 결정은 세계 전체에까지 영향을 끼친다. 세상은 그렇게 서로의 선택으로 얽혀 있다. 자유는 참으로 아름다운 선물이지만, 그 결과는 무섭도록 정직하다.
그런데 이 모든 선택의 연쇄는 어디서 시작되었을까? 아담의 선택도 결코 그 자신에게만 끝나지 않았다. 아담은 잘못된 선택을 했고, 하나님을 떠나 생명의 근원을 잃어버렸다. 그의 죄는 단절을 가져왔고, 그 단절은 인류 전체로 흘러들어왔다. 마치 한 방울의 잉크가 물 전체를 흐리듯, 생명의 근원과의 단절은 우리의 현실이 되었다.
연결된 온전함을 경험해 본 적 없는 우리에겐 단절이 기본 설정값이기에, 우리는 연결이 무엇인지 온전히 이해할 수 없다. 사람은 스스로의 결핍을 다 설명할 수는 없지만, 그 결핍을 부정할 수는 없다. 삶은 언제나 무엇인가 부족한 채로 이어지고, 그 부족을 채우려는 모든 시도는 결국 허무로 돌아간다. 우리는 단절 이후의 세상을 살아가고 있기 때문이다.
하나님과 멀어진 결과로 우리는 육체에 의존하며, 생존 본능에 기초해 싸우듯 살아가야만 한다. 그러나 하나님은 그런 우리를 그냥 두지 않으셨다. 예수님은 우리를 불쌍히 여기셨고, 우리의 짐을 대신 감당하셨다. 예수님의 ‘대신 죽음’으로 우리가 처했던 운명이 십자가에서 드러났고, 예수님의 ‘다시 살아나심’으로 우리가 다시 살았다는 것을 알게 되었다. 이것이 바로 좋은 소식, 즉 복음이다.
우리가 어떤 노력을 한 것도 아니고, 받아 마땅해서는 더욱 아니다. 그저 하나님의 선택일 뿐이다. 그래서 믿음은 특별한 능력이 아니다. 마치 정부가 지원금을 내놓고 “믿느냐”고 묻는 것과 같다. 제도를 만든 것도, 돈을 준비한 것도 우리가 아니지만, 받느냐 마느냐는 우리의 믿음에 달려 있다. 믿음은 단지 이 소식을 사실로 받아들이는 것이다. 예수님이 대신 감당하셨다. 이 소식이 기쁘면 된 것이다.
아담이 닫아버린 문 쪽에서 태어난 우리에게, 반대편에서 문이 열렸다. 그 문은 우리가 믿음으로 연 것도 아니고, 우리가 닫을 수 있는 그런 문도 아니다. 오직 예수님이 십자가로 여신 문이다. 복음은 바로 그 문이 열렸다는 소식이다. 이것은 감정적인 위로나 추상적인 말이 아니다. 하나님이 실제로 행하셨고, 그 사건으로 단절은 끝났다. 나는 단절이 끝났다는 소식을 전하는 것 외에는 전할 것이 없다. 당신에게도 이 소식이 좋은 소식이 되길 간절히 바란다.

Art x Shift
We are free to choose. But every choice always leads to a consequence. And those consequences are never confined to an individual alone. A parent’s mistake can shake an entire family. A leader’s decision can alter the course of countless lives. A president’s judgment can unsettle a whole nation, while the decision of another nation can affect the entire world. That is how deeply our lives are entangled in one another’s choices. Freedom is a beautiful gift, but its outcomes are frighteningly honest.
Where did this chain of choices begin? Adam’s choice did not end with him alone. He made the wrong choice, turned away from God, and lost the very source of life. His sin brought separation, and that separation spread to all of humanity. Like a drop of ink clouding an entire glass of water, the break from the source of life became our shared reality.
Never having known what perfect connection feels like, separation has become our default setting. We cannot fully grasp what true connection is. A person may not be able to describe every detail of their lack, but no one can deny the emptiness itself. Life is always lived with something missing, and every attempt to fill that void ultimately collapses into futility. We live in a world shaped by separation.
As a result of being cut off from God, we live dependent on the flesh, driven by survival instincts, fighting our way through life. But God did not leave us there. Jesus saw our condition and had compassion on us. He carried our burden in our place. In His death on the cross, the weight of our fate was revealed, and in His resurrection, we came to know that life could begin again. This is the good news, the gospel.
It was not earned by anything we did, nor because we were worthy of it. It is only God’s choice. That is why faith is not some special power. It is simply receiving what has already been given. Like when the government provides relief funds and asks, “Will you take it?” We did not design the system or provide the money, but receiving it is up to us. Faith is nothing more than accepting this news as true. Jesus bore it all on our behalf. If this news brings joy, then that is enough.
To those of us born on the side of the door Adam had closed, another door has been opened from the other side. It is not a door we opened with our faith, nor is it one we could ever close. It is the door Jesus opened by His cross. The gospel is the announcement that this door stands open. It is not sentimental comfort or vague encouragement. God has acted. In Jesus, He has made it clear: separation is over. And now I have nothing else to share except this one message, that separation has ended. My hope is that this news will become good news for you as well

We created Art x Shift with the intention of transforming the way we as a visual artist couple engage with art. Art x Shift is a space where art goes beyond being a mere outcome, becoming a place where art, life, and the connection between artists and audiences coexist. With a combination of a studio, exhibition space, café, and a shop, this space naturally shares the process of creation, the challenges, and narratives within, while fostering a culture where art seamlessly integrates into everyday life.
