"고백" is similar with "confess" at the past but the meaning of "confess" has minimized into "serious things" through the history, the meaning of "고백" has expanded into "usual life" through the history. So now Americans usually use "confess" for "the sin", but Koreans usually use "고백" for "the love or usual issues"
