When important issues come up in negotiations, people look to me for insight and perspective. I really like that idea. I read this line in Derek’s book Ego, Authority, and Failure, and it made me think about becoming the kind of person who is truly needed in that position. That thought makes me feel more special and more focused on what I truly want, and it pushes me to think deeply about my own needs. Yes, I want to be healthy. I want to keep working as a negotiator. And I agree with Jeon Joon-hyuk—if I am a negotiator, I should be reading many books and articles, rewriting them in my own words, and applying those ideas directly to my work.
