Overfishing: Destroyer of Marine Ecosystem
These days, overfishing occurs much than the past. So the marine ecosystem has collapsed by the death of many fish. And the fishery and fishing village society is hugely impacted negatively. Overfishing means a fishing that occurs when the rate at which a fishery resources of one species are caught in a particular body of water exceeds the rate at which they are replenished, resulting in the depletion of that species or the failure of the affected populations to survive. Overfishing poses serious threat and problems to the ocean and requires vital effort to solve this problem and lead good consequences.
To begin with, overfishing is destructive to the marine environment and to people’s lives. Overfishing causes make many problems particularly commercial overfishing. First, it could make the villagers who live in the coastal community close their shops. It leads to record-high-unemployment rates as local fisheries are forced to close, unable to compete with the low prices set by large-scale commercial operations. Also, the most significant impact is that it destroys the balance of marine ecosystem. According to A+PREP DAILY, it says, “with the decline of large fish populations, commercial fleets began venturing deeper into the ocean and further down food chain for viable catches. This phenomenon disrupted the deliberate balance”. So overfishing can give many problems if it occurs continuously. And commercial fleets fishing further down in the ocean will harm the fish in the ocean and let them die.
Therefore, overfishing has to be stopped by people giving vital efforts to prevent the devastation of marine biodiversity. First, there is a need to establish fishing quotas based on scientific events. And they need to make more Marine Protect Areas. (MPA) Another one is to strengthen controlling illegal fisheries. Also, A+PREP DAILY also states, “many scientists believe that aggressive fisheries management and better enforcement of catch limits could restore most fish populations. Increased us of aquaculture, or seafood farming could help”. However, some people say that the ocean will automatically restore quickly. But, restoring the broken balance of the marine biodiversity requires decades and globally concerted efforts. To restore this ocean, people must try everything for the ocean, but also for themselves!
In conclusion, overfishing gives much negative impact and problems to the ocean and needs vital effort to solve it and lead to good consequences. Overfishing makes on sea creature species almost extinct, make villagers who live in the village close to coast close their stores, and to solve it, the society must increase aquaculture and use seafood farming. Humans must practice everything to protect the marine biodiversity after thinking the effects that it gives to them when it occurs.
