compulsive는 병적이며 통제가 되지 않는 강박적인 상태를 표현하는 말이고 compulsory는 반드시 해야 하는 강제적이고 의무적인 상황을 표현합니다.

둘 다 강력한 느낌이 드는 것은 pel(puls)라는 root(어근)가 drive(몰아붙이다)의 의미를 담고 있기 때문입니다.

compulsive shopping은 통제할 수 없는 반복적인 동작으로 나타나는 addictive(중독성인, 습관적인) 행동으로 빠지는 경우가 많고, 경제적인 어려움 등의 심각한 문제를 겪게 되는 쇼핑 행위를 말합니다.

impulse shopping은 미리 계획하지 않았는데 외부의 자극에 의해서 충동적으로 질러버리는 쇼핑 행위를 말합니다.
