Understanding of Post-Brexit Union

CANZUK is a common name for a new transnational body to be formed by Canada, Australia and New Zealand along with the United Kingdom, and is being mentioned as the most likely political partnership to be formed after Britain leaves the European Union. Britain's withdrawal from the European Union has emerged as a new alternative since it was decided.

Except for the UK, the other three countries have already been colonized by Britain and are being organized by descendants of Britain. These four countries not only speak the same language but also have cultural homogeneity, and the political system is the same because they have a parliamentary cabinet system. In addition, it has many things in common, including being a member of the British Commonwealth led by the UK and being considered an early economic powerhouse in the international society.

The Post-Brexit Union is part of the Commonwealth also means that the Queen of the UK is the monarch of the country. In sum, these four countries have the same monarchs, have secured political systems, language, and cultural homogeneity, and spend different dollars except for Britain. Above all, there is little room for raising political absurdities with a blood alliance that is a member of Five Eyes, a security-sharing body centered on the United States. And, mentioned earlier, it is expected that there will be considerable synergy if a multilateral and political union is formed as both countries are economically developed.

Professor Andrew Roberts of King's College, a British historian, said earlier that this tie would be the third representative of the West after the United States, and the European Union if it quickly formed an organization for the CANZUK after the Brexit referendum. Indeed, the economic power that Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Britain are building is pointless to mention in simple numbers, and Canada and Australia boast vast territories as large continental countries. The population alone is over 130 million, and GDP accounts for 7.4 percent of the global community. All four countries boast very strong economies, with their per capita income exceeding $40,000 per capita. Above all, the active alliance and blood alliance of the US is expected to help maintain the US-led international order while gaining a big ally if they engage in a more unified political consensus.

However, there are disadvantages as well. First, there are four geographically separated countries which Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are neighbors, but the physical distance between the North Atlantic and Oceania is so wide that it is questionable how effective it will be. That means there is a limit to dealing with regional issues. Second, there is not much mutual trade between the four countries. The reason why Britain entered the EU was because of the large volume of trade in the region. The proportion of trade in the existing four countries is not so large, so there are many restrictions and obstacles to becoming an economic consensus.

Third, not only is the sharing of information smoothly with the U.S. on security, but the voices are already the same politically, but existing four countries overlook the question of the need for the four countries to form a multilateral agreement. In sum, as there are many such defects, it is questionable whether the launch of CANZUK will gain momentum. Already, it has a substantial security community with the United States, and all four countries have the same monarchs, and language, culture and political structure, so questions remain about how much they will need and how effective they will be.

Other skeptical views remain. Australian former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said Britain had no reason to put the meeting ahead of the European Union. This is probably because the markets of the other three countries are not that big, and Britain's trade volume with the EU is still much larger and more important. In addition, it is understood that the United Kingdom alone has pinched room for the rest of the world to be dragged, as it is a permanent member of the UN Security Council who has the military capability out of the country.

On the contrary, bureaucrats in each country are known to take CANZUK positively. Even in Quebec, Canada, it is known that the initiative is not negative, so there is no room for it to gain strength. However, since the intra-trade volume within the states is small, it is expected that the government will be able to exercise its power with sufficient binding force if it is based on free movement and foreign policy without the economic and trade sectors. It already has an organization called "CANZUK International," supported by the government and organization, and prioritizes expanding the Trans-Tasman Travel Arrangement and the Closer Economic Relations reached between Australia and New Zealand to Britain and Canada.
