56. Adverb 부사

영어에서 부사의 개념을 이해하기 위해서는 우선 형용사의 개념을 정확히 이해하고 있는지 점검해 줄 필요가 있다. 간혹 아이들은 형용사와 부사의 개념을 혼돈스러워하는 경우가 종종 있기 때문이다. 형용사에 대해 다시 한번 언급해 준 후 부사에 대해 지도해 보자.

Q: What is an adjective? 형 요사가 뭐지?

A: An adjective can change the noun. Beautiful girl, ugly girl: beautiful, ugly , they are adjectives. 형용사는 명사를 바꿔 준다. 아름다운 소녀, 못생긴 소녀: 아름다운, 못 생긴: 이들은 형용사이다.

An adjective can describe the subject. She is beautiful. She is ugly. 형용사는 주어를 묘사해 준다. 그녀는 아름답다. 그녀는 못생겼다.

Q: What is an adverb? 부사는 뭐지 Adverb can describe a verb, or sentence. 부사는 동사나 문장을 묘사해 준다.

I run, quickly. I run, slowly. “quickly”, “slowly”; they are adverbs. 나는 빠르게 달린다. 나는 느리게 달린다. ’ 빠르게 ‘, ’ 느리게 ‘는 부사이다.

Always, usually, sometimes, never, they are Adverbs of Time. 항상, 대부분, 가끔, 결코: 이들은 시간의 부사이다.

I always eat rice for breakfast. It shows 100%. 나는 항상 아침 식사로 밥을 먹는다. 100%를 보여 준다.

I usually eat cereal for breakfast. It shows between 80 and 95%. 나는 대부분 아침 식사로 밥을 먹는다. 80~95%를 보여 준다.

I sometimes eat noodles for breakfast. It shows about 50%. 나는 가끔 아침 식사로 밥을 먹는다. 50%를 보여 준다.

I never drink coffee. It shows 0%. 나는 결코 아침식사로 밥을 먹지 않는다. 0%를 보여 준다.

An adjective can change the noun. ‘can change’ 두 손을 위아래로 수평으로 놓고 난 후 돌려준다. ‘noun’은 알파벳 수화 N을 만들어 준다. 주먹을 쥐는데 엄지가 나머지 손가락들 사이 중간으로 놓이게 해 준다.

Beautiful girl, ugly girl: beautiful, ugly , they are adjectives. ‘beacutiful’은 두 손을 마주 보고 약간 벌려준 상태에서 위에서 아래로 물결치듯이 내려온다. ‘ugly’는 양손을 주먹 쥐고 앞뒤로 흔들어 준다.

An adjective can describe the subject. ‘describe’는 왼손은 주먹을 쥐고 오른손은 검지만 편 상태에서 주먹 쥔 왼손 주의를 원 긋듯이 돌려주면 된다.

What is an adverb? Adverb can describe a verb, or sentence. ‘adverb’는 새끼 손가락과 검지 손가락은 펼친 상태에서 나머지 손가락들 은 서러 맞닿게 해 주면 된다. 마치 그림자놀이를 할 때 손으로 개 그림자를 만들 듯이 만들어 주면 된다.

I run, quickly. I run, slowly. “quickly”, “slowly”; they are adverbs. ‘run’은 달리는 시늉을 내주면 되고, ‘quickly’는 부사를 가리키는 손 제스처를 자신의 몸 쪽에서 바깥쪽으로 빠르게 이동해 준다. ‘slowly’는 부사를 가리키는 손 제스처로 자신의 몸 쪽에서 바깥쪽으로 느리게 이동해 준다.

Always, usually, sometimes, never, they are Adverbs of Time. ‘always’는 팔을 크게 벌려 큰 원을 그려준다. ‘usually’는 연 손가락을 엄지부터 새끼 손가락 쪽으로 접어 주면 된다.
