59. What is a clause?

문장에 대한 개념을 복습하고 난 후 절에 대한 개념을 지도한다. 문장 중에서도 단순 문장과 복합 문장에 대한 개념을 지도할 수 있는 방법을 배워보자.

A: Clause is a sentence in a sentence. When clause, Before clause, After clause. ‘절’은 문장 속에 있는 문장이다. When절, Before절, After절이 있다.

When means “at the time.” Before means “happening earlier”.

After means “happening later”. ‘when’은 ‘그때, ~할 때’라는 뜻이다. ‘before’는 ‘~일 등이 미리 일어난다’라는 뜻이다. ‘after’는 ‘~일 등이 나중에 일어난다’라는 뜻이다.

When May wants to buy clothes, she goes to the department. May가 옷을 사기 원할 때, 그녀는 백화점에 간다.

After Jimmy goes to the bank, he will go to the toy store. Jimmy가 은행을 간 후에, 그는 장난감 가게에 갈 것이다.
