형용사의 비교급 중 최상급에 대한 내용을 지도해 보자.
Q: What are the superlatives with adjectives? 형용사의 최상급은 무엇이지?
A: We use the superlatives with adjectives to compare more than three things in the sentence. 문장에서 3개 이상을 비교할 때 우리는 형용사의 최상급을 사용한다.
To make the superlative with adjective, put “the” in front of adjective. And add “–est” at the end of adjective. 형용사의 최상급을 만들기 위해서는, 형용사 앞에 ‘the’를 놓아준다. 그리고 형용사 뒤에 ‘~est’를 붙인다.
I am the tallest in my class. 나는 우리 반에서 제일 크다.
Rule 1: When the one-syllable adjectives finish with one vowel and one consonant, double consonant and
add “–est”. Big-> the biggest Hot->the hottest
한 음절의 형용사가 하나의 모음과 하나의 자음을 끝날 때, 자음을 두 번 반복해 주고 형용서 뒤에 ‘~est’를 붙인다.
Rule 2 : When the adjectives finish with consonant and “y”, drop the “y” and add “-iest”.
Easy -> the easiest dirty ->the dirtiest
형용사가 자음과 ‘y’로 끝나면, ‘y’를 떨어 트리고 ‘~iest’를 붙여준다.
Rule 3: More than two syllable adjectives use ‘the most’ in front of it.
Expensive -> the most expensive beautiful -> the most beautiful
이음 절 이상의 형용사는 앞에 ‘the most’를 사용한다.
Rule 4: Some adjectives change differently. These are irregular adjectives.
Good -> the best Bad -> the worst Fun -> the most fun.
어떤 형용사들은 다르게 변한다. 이것들을 불규칙 형용사라고 한다.

‘one syllable’은 검지 손가락 하나만 펴서 숫자 1을 연상시켜 주도록 한다. ‘finish with’는 왼손 바닥은 오른쪽을 향하게 하고 오른손의 손끝으로 왼손의 손바닥을 툭툭 닿아 주면 된다. ‘one vowel’은 왼손의 검지만 펴서 숫자 1을 만들고 바로 그 손의 검지와 중지 만을 세워 알파벳 V를 만들어 준다. ‘ one consonant’는 오른손의 검지만 세워 숫자 1을 만들고 바로 그 손을 살짝 오르며 알파벳 C를 연상시키는 제스처를 만든다.
