76. When do we use “while”?

‘While’에 대한 지도를 해보자. 수업의 기본은 항상 질문으로 시작한다.

Q: When do we use “while”? 우리는 언제 ‘while’을 사용하지?

A: We use “while” to connect two sentences. It shows that the two things are happening at the same time. 우리는 두문장을 연결하기 위해 ‘while’을 사용한다. 두 사건이 동시에 일어나는 것을 보여 준다.

Jimmy was reading a book. Jimmy는 책을 읽고 있다. May was watching TV. May는 TV를 보고 있다.

Jimmy was reading a book while May was watching TV.

Jimmy는 May가 TV를 보고 있는 동안에 책을 읽고 있다.

(Gesture: When do we use “while”? ‘while’은 양손의 검지, 중지, 약지만 세워 알파벳 W 모양을 만등 후 그 두 개의 손을 서로 교차해서 끼워 준다. We use “while” to connect two sentences. It shows that the two things are happening at the same time. ‘to connect’는 양손 각각 엄지와 중지가 만나 작은 원을 만든 후 두 원이 만나 서로 살짝 벌려 준 후 고리를 연결해 준다. ‘two sentences’는 검지와 중지를 세워 숫자 2를 연상시키고 문장이라는 제스처는 두 손 바닥이 서로 마주 보게 한 후 자신의 몸통 넓이만큼 벌려 준다. ‘it shows that’은 두 손 바닥을 하늘로 향하게 하면서 앞으로 팔을 뻗어 준다 ‘are happening’은 두 손 바닥이 하늘로 향 하아래서 위로 틀어 열어 준다.

‘while’이라는 개념을 이해했다면 다음과 같이 영어로 말할 수 있어야 하고 또한 예시문까지 정확하게 말할 수 있어야 한다.
