절이 무엇인지 지도하기 위해서는 우선 문장이 무엇인지 복습을 하고 난 후 지도한다.
Q: What is a sentence? 문장이 무엇이지?
A: Sentence is a group of words. Sentence needs a subject and a verb. 문장은 단어들의 그룹이다. 문장은 주어와 동사가 필요하다.
A sentence must make sense! ‘It is~~’ ; it is not a sentence. ‘a book’ : it is not a sentence.
‘It is a book.’ : It is a sentence. 문장은 의미가 있어야 한다. ‘그것~~ 이다.’: 문장이 아니다. ‘책 한 권’; 문장이 아니다. ‘그것은 책이다.’; 문장이다.

A: Clause is a sentence in a sentence. 절은 문장 안에 있는 문장을 말한다.

“When” means “at that time” ‘when’은 ‘~ 할 때’라는 뜻이다.
“Before” means “happening earlier”. ‘before’는 어떤 일이 미리 발생하는 것을 의미한다. “After” means “happening later”. ‘after’는 어떤 일이 후에 발생하는 것을 의미한다.
“If” shows “conditional event or situation”. ‘if’는 조건적인 사건이나 상활을 보여 준다.
When the Lee family goes to Thailand, they will visit the museum. Lee family가 타이랜드에 갈 때, 그들은 박물관을 방문할 것이다.
Before Jimmy eats dinner, he will wash his hands. Jimmy가 저녁 먹기 전에, 그는 손을 씻을 것이다.
