85. When do we use “can” or “could”?

조동사 중 ’can’과 ‘could’는 언제 사용하는지에 대해 알아보자.

A: We use can or could to show ability. (can: present tense- could: past tense) 우리는 능력을 보여 주기 위해 can이나 could를 쓸 수 있다.

I can play the piano, now. But I couldn`t play the piano when I was 5. 나는 피아노를 연주할 수 있다. 그러나 5살 때는 연주를 할 수 없었다.

We use can or could to ask permission. Could is more polite than can. 우리는 허락을 받기 위해 can이나 could를 쓸 수 있다. could는 can 보다 좀 더 공손한 표현이다.
