A: To make an indirect speech with a direct speech, step1, we use “that” in front of quotation marks and drop the quotation marks. 직접화법으로 간접화법을 바꾸기 위해서는, 1단계, 따옴표 앞에 ‘tnat’을 넣고, 따옴표는 떨어트려 준다.

Step2, We change the subject and change the verb into past tense. 2단계, 주어를 바꾸어 주고 동사는 과거 형태로 바꾼다.

May said “I want a soda” -> May said that she wanted a soda.

May는 ‘탄산음료 주세요.’라고 말했다. May는 탄산음료를 원한다고 말했다.

Step 3, When there is an indirect object, we use “told and indirect object” instead of “said”. 단계 3, 간접 목적어가 있을 때, 우리는 ‘said’ 대신해서 ‘told’와 ‘간접 목적어’를 쓴다.
