의문문을 포함한 직접화법을 간접 화법으로 만드는 방법을 지도해 보자.

How do we make an indirect speech with a question sentence? 의문문을 가지고 어떻게 간접 화법을 만들까?
To make an indirect speech with a question sentence, we use “asked” and change a question into a statement. 의문문을 가지고 간접화법을 만들기 위해서는 우리는 ‘asked’를 쓴다. 그리고 의문문을 평서문으로 바꾼다.

Jimmy asked, “What time is dinner?”`

Jimmy asked what time dinner was.

But, we should use “asked if” with yes-no question. 그러나 Yes-No 의문문인 경우 ‘asked if’를 쓴다.

May asked, “Can I see a movie?”

May asked if she could see a movie.
