68. What is an adverb?

부사의 개념은 형용사와의 차이를 이해하는 게 쉽다. 형용사는 명사와 관련이 깊다면, 부사는 동사와 관련이 깊다. 형용사의 개념을 이해하고 부사에 대해 알아보자.

Adverb can describe a verb or sentence. 부사는 동사나 문장을 묘사한다.

To make an adverb, add “~ly” at the end of the adjectives. 부사를 만들기 위해서는 형용사 뒤에 ‘~ly’를 붙여야 한다. beautiful- beautifully slow-> slowly

May is a beautiful dancer. She dances beautifully. May는 아름다운 무용가이다. 그녀는 아름답게 춤을 춘다.

Jimmy is a slow swimmer. He swims slowly. Jimmy는 느린 수영선수다. 그는 수영을 느리게 한다.

Rule 1: When the adjective finishes with consonant and “~y”, drop the “~y” and add “ –ily” 형용사가 자음과 ‘~y’로 끝나면 ‘~y’를 떨어트리고 ‘~ily’을 붙인다.

Happy -> happily busy -> busily

Rule 2: early, late, hard and fast: they can be adjectives or adverbs. ‘early, late, hard , fast’ 이들은 형용사가 되거나 부사가 될 수 있다.

Early-> early late -> late hard -> hard fast -> fast

Rule 3: Good is irregular. ‘good’은 불규칙이다.

Good-> well

결국, 부사의 특징과 만드는 규칙을 이해했다면 아래와 같이 영어로 말할 수 있어야 한다.
