Life and Mood Management

When "Special" Becomes Just... Meh..

by 탱e

Grew up as a teenager in the 2000s, the world was a much simpler place. I remember feeling like I’d hit the jackpot with a Blackberry. It wasn’t just a phone—it was a tiny gateway to happiness. I’d feel like I could take on the world just by sending a few messages or checking my emails on the go. It was small, sure, but it made me feel big. Happiness was so easy to come by back then. All it took was the littlest things, and bam—satisfaction.

Fast forward a few years, and the magic has kind of disappeared. In my twenties, I was still getting that rush from the simple things: a spontaneous drive, a night out at a fancy restaurant. I’d save up for weeks to have a memorable dinner and feel like I was living my best life. But now? A fancy dinner is just... dinner. I drive to places, not for adventure, but because it’s convenient. I go to nice restaurants out of habit, not because I’m treating myself to something special. It’s almost like the spark that once made those experiences feel unique has faded into the background.

Here’s the weird thing: I thought it was just about the novelty wearing off, but maybe it’s more than that. Maybe it’s that we forget how to manage our moods as we get older. When everything starts to feel normal, we forget how to find joy in the things that once made us excited. Instead of appreciating what we have, we look for something bigger, something better, always searching for that thrill we once had.

But here’s the catch: the thrill doesn’t always need to come from the next big thing. Sometimes, it’s about tweaking how we experience the things we already have. Sure, driving around the city or eating at a high-end restaurant doesn’t give me the same rush it once did, but maybe that’s the point. We have to learn to find happiness in the ordinary, to manage our moods by remembering that the small things are still worth appreciating. We can find joy in what’s familiar if we know how to see it differently.

So, maybe the trick isn’t in chasing new experiences or bigger thrills, but in learning how to find joy in the moments that have become routine. After all, life doesn’t stop giving us opportunities to be happy—it just asks us to remember how to recognize them.

이상.. 나태해진 마음을 다잡아보려는 나의 끄적임이었다.

그렇다.. 인생은 매 순간이 기분 관리인 것이다..!
