About the author

Liuba Vladimirova is born in Irkutsk near Lake Baikal, Russia in 1989. Intrigued by Chinese culture, she ended up living in Beijing after completing her studies of the Chinese language. Liuba then decided to follow her passion and pursue the career of freelance illustrator and artist. Being excited and curious about new discoveries helps Liuba to have fun, while learning new techniques. Her favorite medium is watercolor because of its soft color and the challenge its brings to control the chaos of its unpredictability on paper.

작가 소개

리우바 블라디미로바는 러시아 바이칼호수 근방 이르쿠츠크에서 1989년에 태어났습니다. 리우바는 중국어 연수를 위해 중국을 첫 방문한 이후에 중국 문화에 강하게 매료되어서 베이징에 거주하기로 결심하였으며, 이때부터 프리랜서 일러스트레이터로서의 경력과 열정을 추구하기로 마음먹었습니다. 그림에 대한 새로운 기술들을 익히며, 중국에 대한 신선한 발견들에 대한 흥미와 호기심은 그녀에게 즐거움을 주었습니다. 부드러운 컬러감과 종이 위에서 예측하지 못하는 방식으로 번지는 물감의 매력에 대한 도전 때문에 리우바가 가장 좋아하는 그리기 방식은 수채화였습니다.

Living in Beijing since 2012, it has become a new home for Liuba, with amazing experiences and a deep love for the city she wants to share with everyone. In 2015, in search for a nice calendar for the upcoming year, she was unable to find one to her liking and opted to create her own. Since then, to show her appreciation for the capital, Liuba has created “The Beijing Calendar” with twelve new paintings every year and the collection of these art works forms the inspiration for this book.

2012년부터 베이징에 거주하면서 이곳은 리우바에게 새로운 고향이 되었습니다. 베이징이라는 도시에 대한 놀라운 경험과 애정을 모든 사람들과 나누고 싶어졌습니다. 2015년, 그녀는 새해에 사용할 달력을 찾던 중에 마음에 드는 것이 없어서, 결국 자신이 만들어보기로 합니다. 그때부터 지금까지, 리우바는 베이징에 대한 애정과 감사를 모아 매년 새로운 그림 12점을 담은 ‘베이징 달력’을 만들어오고 있습니다. 달력 그림들이 차곡차곡 모아지면서 마침내 책 출간에 영감을 주게 되었습니다.

People both visiting or living in China are excited to discover all the quirky things they love about the city hidden in her art. Many fans choose to commission a piece perfectly capturing their personal memories of Beijing and businesses use Liuba’s illustrations to promote their services and products. Right now, Liuba is also developing her own brand, “Liuba Draws”, with a number of products on offer such as calendar, prints, cards, key chains, magnets, and more.
