Beijing is a huge city where you would expect little wildlife. However, the traditional dense urban housing areas provide surprisingly adequate living conditions for some of the most unexpected creatures.
베이징은 정말 규모가 거대한 도시라서 야생동물을 거의 기대할 수 없을 것입니다. 그러나 빽빽한 도시 주택지역은 뜻밖에도 기대하지 않았던 생명체들에게 적당한 서식조건이 되기도 합니다.
These animals are rarely detected, hide in the shadows and take advantage of the darkness during the night to come out and roam the narrow alleyways.
이 동물들은 쉽게 발견되지는 않으며 음지에 숨거나 야간의 어둠을 틈타 나와서 좁은 골목을 돌아다닙니다.

Weasel 족제비
The most notorious street dweller is the Hutong yellow weasel. Many non-believers claim people may have caught a glimpse of a slightly oversized rat or maybe even a strange looking cat instead of laying their eyes on the actual legendary weasel.
가장 악명높은 거리의 동물은 후통의 노랑 족제비입니다. 믿지 못하는 사람들은 거대한 쥐나 요상하게 생긴 고양이를 얼핏 잘못 본거라 우깁니다.
It is said to bring good luck if you are able to spot the sneaky little critter. But beware : Bad luck will fall upon those who decide to harm the weasel or anger these almost mythical creatures by messing with their homes.
이 교활한 작은 생물을 발견하면 행운이 찾아온다고 알려져 있습니다. 하지만 주의할 점은, 족제비를 해치려고 하거나 서식지를 망가뜨려서 이 신비한 동물을 화나게 하면 불운이 찾아온다고 합니다.
Legend says weasels are wandering spirits that steal and replace your soul.
또한 족제비가 당신의 영혼을 훔치거나 바꿔치기하여 돌아다니는 것이라고도 하는 전설도 있습니다.
Sinister stories are being told among hutong residents when a person is groaning loudly in the middle of the night. Those poor individuals are being possessed by the weasel. Hitting the victim with a broom will chase the evil spirit out. Nice way to wake up!
후통 거주자들 사이에서는 한밤 중에 큰 소리를 내는 사람이 있으면 그는 족제비에게 사로잡혔다는 불길한 이야기가 전해집니다. 빗자루로 그를 내리치면 나쁜 기운을 몰아낼 수 있다고 하네요. 확실하게 잠을 깨우는 방법입니다!

My friend encountered a scorpion in the bathroom at her hutong house and moved out the very same day.
