The Spring Festival is the most important holiday in China and marks the beginning of spring and the new year according to the lunar calendar. Fireworks and firecrackers are one of the most important parts of the celebrations.
춘절은 중국에서 가장 중요한 명절이며 음력으로 봄과 새해의 시작을 알립니다. 불꽃놀이와 폭죽은 춘절을 축하하는 매우 중요한 부분 중 하나입니다.
Firecrackers are used to scare away evil spirits. A long time ago villagers were terrorized by a monster, called "Nian" 年[nián]. They discovered that burning dry green bamboo would produce sounds that scare off the monster and that is how this Chinese New Year tradition came to be.
폭죽은 나쁜 기운을 물리치는데 사용됩니다. 오래 전에 마을 사람들이 ‘니엔’이라는 이름의 괴물 때문에 공포에 떨었다고 합니다. 그들은 건조된 푸른 대나무를 태우면 괴물을 겁주는 소리가 난다는 것을 알게 되었고, 이후 이는 춘절의 전통으로 내려오게 되었습니다.

1. After inventing gun powder people used it to stuff bamboo for that extra BANG!
화약이 발명된 후에 사람들은 대나무 속에 넣어서 더 큰 폭발음을 내는데 사용하였습니다.
2.Later bamboo was replaced by paper tubes.
이후 대나무는 종이로 대체되었습니다.
3. Now all fireworks are prohibited in the Beijing city center, but the inventive Chinese came up with electronic firecrackers featuring flashing lights and noisy speakers blasting bangs for the full effect!
현재는 베이징 도심 내 모든 폭죽놀이가 금지되었는데, 창의적인 중국인들은 불빛이 번쩍이며 팡팡 시끄러운 소리를 내는 전자 폭죽으로 효과를 극대화하기도 합니다.

Fireworks used to be tolerated in the city. We lived in an apartment on the 21st floor and fireworks were exploding right in front of our windows. It was a surreal, deafening experience; we couldn't hear the TV right in front of us and forget about making a phone call. The window panes rattled like thunder.
불꽃놀이는 도심 내에서 한 때 허락되었습니다. 우리는 아파트 21층에 살았었는데, 창문 바로 앞에서 폭죽이 터졌습니다. 비현실적이며 귀가 먹먹해지는 경험이었습니다. 바로 앞에 있는 TV 소리조차 들리지 않았으며 전화 소리가 울려도 듣지 못했습니다. 창문은 천둥이 치듯 덜컹거렸습니다.

During the week of new year celebrations, something very strange happens in the usually bustling city: a total shutdown. Many stores, restaurants and offices lock their doors and the capital turns into a seemingly deserted town. you are unable to receive quick deliveries, but obtaining that much desired seat on the subway is suddenly very easy! This is because many city inhabitants are not from Beijing originally. At this time, hard workers in big cities all over China travel back to their hometowns to reunite with their families, which sets in motion what is considered the largest annual human migration in the world.
춘절 연휴 동안, 복잡한 도시에서 매우 진기한 일들이 일어납니다. 대부분의 상점, 식당, 사무실들이 문을 닫고 버려진 도시처럼 변합니다. 배달을 받기도 어려워지는데, 한편으로는 지하철에서 원하는 자리에 앉기가 매우 쉬워집니다! 많은 도시 거주민들이 원래 베이징 출신이 아니기 때문입니다. 이 시기에는 도시의 농민공들이 중국 전역을 이동하여 고향으로 돌아가서 가족들과 재회합니다. 세계에서 가장 큰 연례 대이동으로 여겨집니다.
