29. 궈마오, 산리툰, 마라탕
国贸 [guó mào]
Guomao is in the CBD area, the business district of Beijing. I like to think of it as a mini-Manhattan with shiny skyscrapers that cạn be seen from the mountains on the outskirts of the city. This district represents for me the futuristic Beijing with all its high-rise office buildings, fancy stores, fine dining restaurants and upscale bars.
궈마오는 베이징의 중심업무지구 CBD (central business district) 입니다. 나는 이 지역이 베이징 교외의 산 위에서도 보이는 빛나는 마천루들로 이루어져서 마치 ‘작은 맨하탄’같다고 생각합니다. 이 구역은 미래지향적인 베이징을 연상케하며 높은 사무 빌딩들, 화려한 상점들, 멋진 식당들과 바들로 이루어져있습니다.
三里屯 [sān lǐ tún]
Near Guomao we find the Sanlitun area, the trendiest area for the young and hip. It's THE place to go party in Beijing. However, just take a few steps away from the hustle and bustle of these youngsters to have a stroll in the quiet embassy area and follow the Liangma River where uncles might be fishing or having a refreshing swim in the river while aunties take over open spaces to dance the night away.
궈마오 근처에 산리툰 지역이 있는데, 이 곳은 젊은이와 힙스터들에게 가장 트렌디한 곳입니다. 베이징에서 파티하러 하는 바로 ‘그’ 곳입니다. 그러나 바삐 움직이는 젋은이들 무리에서 한 걸음 떨어져서 보면, 조용한 대사관 구역을 거닐거나 량마허 강변 따라 낚시나 수영하는 아저씨들, 밤에 광장에서 춤추는 아줌마들을 만날 수 있습니다.
麻辣烫 [má là tàng] hot spicy soup
마라탕
Technically not a Beijing specialty, but oh so popular. The hot and spicy flavor is owed to the Sichuan peppercorn giving your mouth a distinct numbing sensation.
엄밀히 말하면 베이징 특색 음식은 아니지만 정말 인기 많습니다. 뜨겁고 매운 맛은 사천지방 후추 때문인데 입안 감각을 얼얼하게 마비시킵니다.
Years ago, in the area around Sanlitun where dance clubs are located, tents from malatang sellers would pop up to feed starving party people.
몇 년 전, 댄스 클럽들이 즐비한 산리툰 지역에서 허기진 파티 피플들을 위해 마라탕 임시 가판매장이 열리기도 했습니다.
One of the reasons I started drawing Beijing Scenes is my desire to document modern Beijing, how I see it, how I experience it and how it is changing right in front of my eyes.
내가 베이징의 전경을 그리기 시작한 이유 중 하나는, 베이징에 대한 현재의 기록, 내가 이를 바라보고 경험하는 방식, 내 눈 앞에서 변해가는 모습 등을 기록하고 싶은 열망 때문입니다.

At that time, before the existence of bike or ride sharing apps, rickshaw drivers would wait until party- goers were tired and ready to go home, so they could call people over and offer them a ride. This is a little painting I made at that time. I'm glad my drawing skills have improved over the years!
공공자전거나 앱 호출 택시 등이 나오기 전 그 당시에는, 인력거꾼들이 파티 피플들이 지쳐서 집으로 돌아갈 때까지 기다리고는, 불러서 태워준다고 외칩니다. 이 그림은 그 당시에 그린 작은 작품인데, 몇 년에 걸쳐 내 그림 실력이 향상된 것 같아 기쁩니다.

내가 찍은 사진은 아니지만 너무 멋져서 항상 소장하는 궈마오 스카이라인 사진.산리툰. 자주 가도 트렌디함이 매번 업데이트 되는 흥미로운 장소. 모든 브랜드, 모든 식당이 존재한다. 왠지 멋지게 갖춰입고 나들이 하고 싶은 지역.
