Setting the earth on fire

Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.

You probably heard Steve Jobs' Stanford commencement speech. It says,

"The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle...Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life...Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition...

Stay hungry. Stay foolish."

When I heard Steve Jobs speak, I felt the fire inside him. He lived out what he loved and believed.

Jesus had a similar fire in himself. When he cleansed the temple by driving out all sellers and money changers from the temple courts, his disciples remembered that it is written: 'Zeal for your house will consume me'(John 2,17).

Steve Jobs and Jesus both had the fire that consumed themselves.

We all have the fire within which could be called passion, soul, or even consciousness. If we decide to live out the fire, it may consume us because knowing the truth and living the truth are quite different.

Dorothy Day who dedicated her whole life to feeding the poor and witnessing to peace and justice said, "Love in action is a harsh and dreadful thing."

Do you feel the fire in yourself? Touching your heart, ask yourself, "Do I live what I have been made for by God?" "Do I love what I do which makes me zealous?" "Do I want to give up my life for something greater than me?"

The Book of Revelation says, "I know your works; I know that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either cold or hot. So, because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth"(Rev. 3,15-16).

The Eucharist, that is the essense of heart of Jesus, will teach and make us zealous like our Master. We pray together to set the earth on fire with the Holy Spirit!
