How many hours do you sleep?

by 꽃뜰

Today’s Topic

How many hours do you sleep? How much sleep do we really need to work productively? State your opinion.

<내가 쓴 글>

I sleep 5 or 6 hours a day. I think 5 hours are enough to work productively as long as it is a deep sleep. It's more important to sleep how deeply than how many hours. Therefore I stay out of the bed until I want to sleep so much. If not, I have to try many ways to catch a nap. When I was very tired, it was so easy to get sleep deeply. So I always insist that you should be doing something outside your bed until you fall asleep. Sometimes my husband and I stay all night to watch very interesting TV drama. My husband doesn't have to wake up early in the morning because he has retired from the company a few years ago. So it's no problem to stay all night. The problem is that our bodies don't listen. When we were teenagers, we used to stay up all night. But now we can't do because of getting old. We can't do anything the next day after waking up. Therefore we try to get sleep for at least 5 hours or more than that. A deep sleep is very important for us.

<그리고 딸려온 특별 멘트>

Thank you for completing the writing activity. It is greatly appreciated. It is nice that you made an interesting piece of writing. We can see that you try to practice your English as much as you can. Good job!

NOTES:

1. General Number Rule: Spell out whole numbers (as well as ordinal numbers) 0-9 and use figures for numbers 10 and above (examples: zero, one man, five years, 10 boxes, 96 people, 104 books, ninth floor, 15th floor).

숫자 9까지는 반드시 스펠링 다 써줄 것. 10 이상은 숫자를 써도 된다. 오케이.

2. Subject-Verb Agreement

Distances, Periods of Time, and Units of Measurement
Use a singular verb with distances, periods of time, sums of money, etc., when considered as a unit.

Three miles is too far to walk.

Seven years is the maximum sentence.

BUT: Five dollars were scattered on the floor.

거리, 기간, 금액 등을 단위로 간주할 때는 단수 동사를 사용한다. 3마일은 걷기에는 너무 멀다. 7년이 최고형이다. 이건 단위로 쓰인 거니까 단수 동사. 그러나 5달러가 바닥에 흩어져 있었다는 단위로 쓰인 게 아니니까 복수 동사. 아하.

3. Simple Past

Use the simple past tense, [verb]+d/ed, when an action is done at a specific time in the past:

확실한 과거 사건엔 과거 동사!

I have gone to Austria two years ago. INCORRECT

(two years ago is a specific time in the past)

I went to Austria two years ago. CORRECT
