공부할 시간은 만드는 것.
Feat. 스페인어 공부
벌써 스페인어 공부를 시작한 지 3주 차가 되었고, 여름 세션이 시작한 지 2주째가 지나고 있다.
나는 새벽에 집을 나가 집에 돌아오면 밤 11시가 되는 스케줄로 9번째 여름을 보내고 있는 중이고, 8번의 여름을 보내면서, '이미 바쁜 내 삶에 바쁨을 더해보자'는 생각은 해보지도 못했다. 일이 너무 바쁘기도 하고, 몸이 피곤하기도 해서, 일 외에 다른 것을 생각해본다는 것은 어찌 보면 사치였다.
그런데 2020년 여름은 스페인어를 공부하고 싶다는 생각이 쭉 들어왔고, 내가 가장 바쁜 시즌인 6월에 스페인어 공부에 도전을 하게 되었다.
비교적 안 바쁜 다른 시즌 두고 하필 왜 여름이었는지 곰곰이 생각해보면, 모든 것에는 타이밍이 있기 때문이 아닐까 라는 생각을 해봤다.
하필이면 조금 덜 바빴던 5월에, 넷플릭스 '종이의 집'에 푹 빠져서 시즌 1을 단숨에 봐버렸고, 자막에 의존해서 보기보다는 내가 직접 '듣고' 이해할 수 있었으면 좋겠다는 생각을 했더란다. 또한, 그 맘 때쯤 '언어 씹어먹기'를 알게 되어 언어 공부를 함께 할 수 있는 동료들을 만났고, 매일매일 그들이 열심히 공부하는 모습을 보고 motivation 한 단계 업. 그 와중에 인스타그램을 통해서 'APF'를 만났고, 마침 그때 스터디원을 구하는 공고를 보게 된 것이다.
하지만, 타이밍이 정말 완벽하게 맞아떨어졌어도, 내 마음이 준비가 되지 않았더라면 난 스페인어 공부를 시작하지 못했을 텐데, 수업을 할지 말지 고민을 하는 와중에 정말 이상하리만치 스페인어 공부를 향한 열정이 더 강해졌으면 강해졌지, 약해지지는 않았다. 그래서, 아, 이것은 스페인어를 공부하라는 신의 계시구나, 해서 덜컥 시작하게 된 것 같다.
이제 4주 차.
눈 딱 감고 한 달만 버텨보자, 라는 마음으로 시작했다기엔 스페인어 공부가 너무 재밌다.
덕분에 집에 돌아오자마자 씻고 누웠던 예전의 여름과는 달리, 이제는 집에 오면 씻고 컴퓨터 앞에 앉아 내일 내야 하는 과제를 준비한다. 준비 후엔 녹음을 몇 번 하고, 내일 점심시간에 보낼 파일을 딱 준비해둔다. 그리고 다음 날에 점심시간 혹은 수업 쉬는 시간에 잠시 짬을 내어 과제를 보내면 비로소 나의 데일리 스페인어 과제가 끝이 난다. 하루 동안 열심히 준비한 과제를 보내는 순간처럼 가장 두근거리고, 뿌듯한 순간이 또 어딨을까. 아마 이 맛에 스페인어 공부를 계속하는가 보다.
이제 한주만 더 하면 APF와 함께했던 A2 수업이 끝이 난다. 7월에도 계속 도전을 할 의향이 물론 있지만, 7월은 지금보다 딱 1.5배 바빠질 예정이라 정말 어떻게 해야 할지 지금도 고민이다. 하지만, 내가 포스팅 제목에 언급했듯, 공부는 시간이 났을 때 하는 것이 아니라, 내가 직접 내서 해야 하는 것임을 누구보다 잘 알고 있는 나이기에, 어쩌면 불가능한 스케줄 속에서도 스페인어 공부는 계속 끌어가지 않을까, 생각해본다.
어쨌든, 이번 주도 스페인어 수업 ALL COMPLETE!
하루도 빼먹지 않고 잘한 나, 칭찬해!
비록, 하루는 '연습용이었던 15초짜리 녹음본'을 보내서 피드백을 제대로 받지는 못했지만.

Tienes que dejar de fumar para tu salud. Puedes hacerlo. Si se puede. Todos están preocupados por ti, incluidos tus padres y amigos. Siempre recuerde que fumar no solo es malo para ti, sino también para las personas que lo rodean. Deberías dejar de fumar en serio.
Look, you need to wake up. You promised you would quit smoking, but look at you! You still have that cigarette box in your pocket! Are you that weak? I don't think so! ¿Cuál era tu comida favorita cuando eras niño o niña?
Cuando era niña, disfrutaba comiendo la comida casera de mi abuela. Ella era una gran cocinera. Ella me hizo mis platos coreanos favoritos, como 떡볶이, 김밥, y 동치미. Ella sabía que amaba la carne, así que puso tanta carne en cada plato, y no podría estar más feliz. Aunque mi abuela ya no está conmigo, sé que me está cuidando desde arriba. La extraño mucho.
When I was a kid, I enjoyed eating my grandmother's homemade food. She was a great cook. She made me my favorite Korean dishes such as 떡볶이, 김밥, and 동치미. She knew I loved meat, so she put so much meat into every dish, and I couldn't be happier. Although my grandmother is no longer with me, I know she's watching over me from up above. I miss her dearly.

Sí, he probado la comida latinoamericana. Mientras vivía en El Salvador, disfrutaba comer pupusas, especialmente las que tenían queso. Siempre le pedía a mi doncella que me hiciera pupusas, y ella siempre me hacía una después de la escuela. Ella era la mejor cocinera de pupusas. Disfruté comiendo pupusas con salsa y salsa picante. Después de mudarme a los Estados Unidos, quería comer pupusas, así que le pedí a mi amigo salvadoreño que me hiciera una, pero nunca supo lo mismo. ¡Extraño la verdadera comida salvadoreña!
Yes, I have tried Latin American food. While I lived in El Salvador, I enjoyed eating pupusas, especially the ones with cheese. I always asked my maid to make me pupusas, and she would always make one for me after school. She was the best pupusas cook ever. I enjoyed eating pupusas with salsa and hot sauce. After I moved to the United States, I wanted to eat pupusas, so I asked my salvadorean friend to make one for me, but it never tasted the same. I miss the real Salvadorean food!
