cotton, wood, or a pebble under water;

steel icicle versus

dust catching a fire

feeling like a tenant,

like an observer

to the lay pastime of nuts

and wonders

and dollars

an onion peeling over an axis

tilting to a side, more than average,

just one step before explosion

halting into a void

borderless

smoke, peanut, and a blasting bacon fat

migrating to a hypothesis;

reluctant in terms of the rules

of the tournament,

a hostage

to the troubled vision of a late realization

that this station is leased

so close,

but only an observer,

a tenant,

a leased property

that belongs to a fallen empire

going extinct once more,
