1. 의약품과 관련된 단어들

medicine : 액체나 알약 형태의 약 

Have you taken your medicine this morning? 

오늘 아침 약 챙겨 먹었니? 

* 우리말로 '약을 먹다'이지만 영어로 eat (X) -> take (O) 

medicine : 의술, 의학

Traditional Korean Medicine is mainly composed of pharmaceutical treatment using herbs and acupuncture.

한의학은 주로 약재를 활용한 약물치료와 침 치료로 구성되어 있다. 

medication : 약물/ 약물치료

She's on medication for her heart condition.

그녀는 심장 때문에 약물치료 중이다.

*be on medication for : ~에 대해 약물치료 중이다.

drug : 약

The side effects of this drug may include fever and fatigue.

이 약의 부작용으로 발열과 피로감이 동반될 수 있다. 

a generic drug : 복제약 <-> a brand- name drug : 오리지널 개발약 

* 한 제약사에서 개발한 특정한 약을 부를 때 a brand-name drug라 하고 같은 성분을 사용해 같은 효과를 주는 약품을 a generic drug라고 한다. 예를 들어 '아세트아미노펜' 계열 진통제 중 '타이레놀'이 a brand-name drug라면 같은 성분의 다른 이름의 진통제들이 a generic (drug)라고 할 수 있다.

prescribe : 약을 처방하다. 

prescription medicines (drugs, medications ) : 처방약

OTC : 의사 처방전 없이 살 수 있는 일반 의약품

over-the-counter drugs (medicines, medications) 

pill: 알약

Many kids have hard time swallowing pills.

많은 아이들은 알약을 삼키기 어려워한다.

drug : 마약

그는 불법 마약을 팔다가 체포되었다. 

*be arrested for : ~로 체포되다.

narcotic(명, 형) : 헤로인, 코카인, 마리화나 같은 환각 작용이 있는 마약류 

Laws governing the sale of narcotics vary state to state. 

마약류 판매에 관련된 법은 주마다 다르다. 

drug abuse : 약물 남용, 마약 남용

be high on sth  :  ~에 취해있다.

그는 헤로인에 취해있다. 

be addicited to sth:  ~에 중독되었다.

come off sth : 마약을 끊다

* rehab : rehabilitation의 줄임말
