You can make anything
by writing

It’s going to be all right

힘들지만 괜찮습니다.

“This may seem tough, But it’s going to be all right”

Did you ever flinch and hurriedly leave
as someone next to you coughed?
And…
Were you flustered
by your reaction?

Does the news make you stressed out,
feeling like you can’t take it anymore?
And…
Did you feel resentment
at how anxious you’ve become?

Do you toss and turn in your sleep,
Concerned about your personal finance,
and where your children
should go instead of school?
And…
Do you feel you can no longer
bear the situation?

Perhaps When you were young,
you might’ve splashed
against the waves at the beach.
The big waves would come
and you would take a deep breath
and close your eyes
feeling the tides brushing over you.

And after they’re gone,
You look at others around you
And cheerfully smile.

Now you may feel threatened
if someone next to you had just sneezed
Be frustrated while watching the news
Perhaps the entire situation may feel overwhelming
It’s all right
The waves are just passing through.

Against the waves,
you hold your ground
Eyes closed, while holding your breath.
You’re okay the way you are.

Remember,
What you’re going through now
is but a moment in your entire life.
And you’re doing the best you can
Putting all your effort.
And that’s enough.

Here’s something you could try!
Narrative Exposure Therapy, or NET, has an exercise called Lifeline.
Draw one long straight line in a paper that represents your life and fill it with your past events,
from the day you were born in a chronological order.
Draw a flower for every happy moment, a stone for every hardship,
its size bigger the more difficult it felt.
When you complete your Lifeline, take a good look of how it looks like.
And then take a good look at yourself who’s doing a fantastic job right now.
Give yourself a hug for doing so!

This may seem tough,
But it’s going to be all right.
