엘튼 존 - 유어 송
최근 S선배가 추천해 준 이 곡에 푹 빠졌다. 아름다운 멜로디와 부드러운 보컬도 끝내주지만, 특히 그 가사가 참 묘하다. 재능을 갖추었지만 아직 그것이 활짝 피기 전, 인생의 어느 한 시점에서 특별한 경험을 한 사람만이 쓸 수 있는 문장. 유치함과 성숙함 그 사이 어디, 어설픔과 진부함 그 사이 어디에 딱 한 지점이 있고, 운이 좋아야 아주 잠깐만 머무를 수 있는 그 지점에서 써내려간 가사같다고나 할까.

작사가인 Taupin은 이에 대해 아주 유치한 가사라고 했지만, 이를 썼던 그 순간에는 진심이었기 때문에 지금까지 살아남은 거라고 짐작한다.
"It's got to be one of the most naïve and childish lyrics in the entire repertoire of music," he told Music Connection in 1989. "But I think the reason it still stands up is because it was real at the time. That was exactly what I was feeling. I was 17 years old and it was coming from someone whose outlook on love or experience with love was totally new and naïve."

가능성이 희박한 얘기고, 코 모양도 좀 다른거 같고, 오노 요코도 주변에 없으니 존레논일리가 없다. 그래도 그냥 믿고 싶어진다. 1970년. 존 레논이 10년 넘게 같이 한 비틀즈 멤버와 다른 길을 가기로 결심한 뒤였고, 폴과는 이미 사이가 멀어졌고, 곧 "love", "imagin"을 쓰게 되고, 10년 뒤에 총에 맞게 된다. 그 사이에 관객 틈에 섞여서 다른 존의 곡, "your song"을 듣고 있는 것이다. 그냥 그렇다는 거다. why not.
