The Messiah will come again
날씨와 음악을 더하면 글이 나온다는 건 수학적 공리에 가까운 것일까?
오늘같이 비가 서늘하게 내리는 날에 리베카 솔닛의 <길 잃기 안내서>를 읽다가 블루스를 언급하는 대목에서 생각난 Roy Buchanan의 <The Messiah will come again>을 들으며 길을 걸었다.
로이의 기타도 그러하지만, 블루스를 잘 들어보면 공통된 일렉기타 톤이 있다.
특히 한 음을 연주할 때 귀기울여 들어보면 알 수 있다.
그 소리는 마치 우리가 입을 아- 벌리고서 생긴 공간에 얇은 막을 씌워놓아, 완연한 아- 가 아닌, 열려 있으나 살짝 먹먹한 어-에 가까운 아-, 혹은 어느 발음도 아닌 소리와 같다.
그 소리는 마치 블루스의 유래를 대변하는 것만 같다.
뿌리가 뽑혀 던져진 전혀 낯선 땅 위에서 고된 삶으로 진을 빼다가 견디지 못하고 내던진 외마디 비명과 같이,
그 아- 는 록 기타의 쨍한 톤과는 다른 텁텁하고 답답한, 말로 다 못할 깊은 고통의 세계를 품고 있는 듯하다.
