서점 갔다가 새삼스레 알게 된 사실.
선택의 폭이 넓어졌다.
신간 소개 코너에 두툼한 야구 책이 두 권 놓여 있었다.
프로야구 흥행이 책 출간의 발판이 되었을 거라 짐작한다.
책 표지의 메인 모델도 작년 한 해, 실력도 인기도 폭발한 기아 타이거즈 김도영이다.
세대교체 느낌이 물씬 난다.
청소년 도서 코너에도 '야구 x 수학'이라는 책이 있었다.
청소년 도서 코너에 발견한 '야구 x 수학' 추천 도서야구에 참 많은 데이터가 있고, 그게 충분히 재미있는 수학적인 이야기가 된다고 본다.
야구 선수 한 명이 시즌 중에 시합에 출전하는 순간, 모든 것이 데이터베이스에 담긴다.
선수가 타석에 몇 번 서는지, 공을 몇 개를 보고, 안타는 몇 개를 치는지, 수비를 하다가 실책은 몇 개를 하는지, 투수는 공을 얼마의 스피드로 한 게임에 몇 개의 스트라이크와 볼을 던지는지 등등, 선수의 일거수일투족을 데이터화한다.
1차적으로 타율, 출루율, 장타율, 방어율 등의 기초 지표를 만들고,
그것을 가공한 OPS(On-base Plus Slugging) 데이터로 타자의 공격력을 평가한다.
또한, WAR(Wins Above Replacement) 데이터를 통해 특정 선수의 승리 기여도를 지표 화해서 선수를 평가한다.
그리고 이런 데이터를 토대로 연봉 협상을 한다.
한 해 시즌이 끝날 즈음, 누군가는 승승장구하고, 또 누군가는 조용히 야구장에서 사라진다.

야구 관련 책이 서점이 있어서 선택의 폭이 넓어져서 좋았다는 이야기를 하다가 데이터로 평가받는 세상이 정확할지언정 인간미는 쬐매 떨어진다는 이야기로 슬쩍 넘어가네.
그게 사람 사는 세상인 거지.
오늘도 하루의 승부에 일희일비하지만, 그 무엇보다 선수들이 안 다치고 신명 나게 시합에 임하길 바라고, 그들을 응원한다.

新刊紹介コーナー に厚い野球本が2冊置かれていた。
プロ野球の興行が本出版の踏み台になったと推測する。
本の表紙の メインモデル も昨年1年間、実力も人気も日進月歩した起亜タイガース の キム·ドヨン だ。
世代交代の感じがする。
青少年図書コーナー にも「野球×数学」 という本があった。
野球には本当にたくさんの データ があり、それが十分に面白い数学的な話になると思う。
野球選手1人が シーズン中に試合に出場すると、そのすべてが データベース に保存される。
選手が打席に何回立つか、ボール を何個見て、ヒット は何個打つか、守備をしていて失策は何個するか、投手は ボール をどれくらいの スピード で1 ゲーム に何個ストライク と ボール を投げるかなど、選手の一挙手一投足を データ化する。
1次的に打率、出塁率、長打率、防御率などの基礎指標を作り、
それを加工した OPS(On-base Plus Slugging) データ で打者の攻撃力を評価する。
また、WAR(Wins Above Replacement) データ を通じて特定選手の勝利寄与度を指標化して選手を評価する。
そして、このような データ をもとに年俸交渉をする。
1年の シーズン が終わると、誰かは高額年俸をもらって勢いに乗り、また誰かは静かに野球場から消える。
え？
野球の本が書店があって選択の幅が広がった点が良いという話をしていたが、データ で評価される世の中が正確であっても、人間味はかなり落ちるという話に少し移る。
それが人が生きる世の中なんだ。
今日も私は一日の勝負に一喜一憂するが、何よりも選手たちが怪我をせずに楽しく試合に臨むことを願い、選手たちを応援する。
