책 디자인

친구 배웅 차 인천공항에 다녀왔다.
아쉽게도 공항에서 책을 볼 수 있는 공간이 줄어드는 느낌이다.
부대시설 일부를 수리하고 있어서 할애할 공간이 적어서였을까?
영어로 우리말을 배우고, 우리 문화를 영어로 알리는 책들이 있었다.
한국어 회화 책은 그걸 보면서 외국인 친구와 대화해 보면 재미있겠다는 생각이 들었다.
무엇보다 눈에 띈 건 우리말 유명 소설들을 영어로 번역하여 출판한 책들과 영어로 먼저 쓰고 우리말로 번역된 책들이었다.
그 책들 중 절반 이상은 읽었고 대략적인 글의 분위기는 기억난다.
책을 꺼내 펼쳐보지는 않고 책 디자인을 찬찬히 살펴보았다.
'작은 땅의 야수들, 아몬드, 저주토끼, 92년생 김지영, 엄마를 부탁해'는 한글로 먼저,
'파친코, H 마트에서 울다'는 영어로 먼저 만들어진 책이다.
책 표지 디자인은 글 속의 주요 장면이나 작가가 하고 싶은 말을 축약하여 한 컷으로 나타내야 한다.
제목과도 잘 어울려야 하는 건 기본이다.
시작점이 어느 언어로 썼는지 또한 디자인에서 중요 포인트가 되는 느낌이다.
아몬드, 92년생 김지영, 파친코 모두 이목구비를 표시하지 않는 게 인상적이다.
그러고 보니 자서전이나 자기 계발 책이 아니고선 표지 디자인에 사람의 얼굴을 분명하게 드러내지 않는 듯하다.
책 속 서사가 인물들의 심리를 주로 이야기할 때는 표정을 지우거나 어둠을 드러내는 편이다.
몇 백 페이지의 글을 책 표지 한 장으로 만드는 과정, 꽤 재미있어 보인다.
자주자주 두루두루 살펴보면서 안목을 높여 놓고, 언젠가는 실력 발휘를 해 보련다.
아, 내가 생각하는 영어 책들의 장점 중 하나는 페이퍼 북이 많다는 것이다.
가볍고 부담 없다.
소장하고 싶을 때는 하드 커버의 양장본으로, 가볍게 즐기고 싶을 때는 페이퍼 북으로 들고 다니고 싶다.
책도 글도 읽어 주는 감사한 이들이 있어 존재의 의미가 있을 터.
오늘도 감사한 마음을 담아 카보드를 박력 있게 두드린다.
I went to Incheon Airport to see my friend off.
Unfortunately, it felt like there was less space to read books at the airport.
Is it because some of the facilities were being repaired, so there was less space for books?
There were books that taught Korean in English and introduced our culture in English.
I thought it would be fun to have a conversation with a foreign friend while looking at the Korean conversation book.
What caught my eye the most were books that translated famous Korean novels into English and published them, and books that were written in English first and then translated into Korean.
I've read more than half of those books, and I remember the general tone of the writing.
I took out the book and looked closely at its cover design without opening it.
'Beasts of a Little Land, Almond, Cursed Bunny, KIM JIYOUNG, Born 1992, Please Look After Mom' were written in Korean first,
and 'Pachinko, Crying in H Mart' was written in English first.
The book cover design should summarize the main scene in the text or what the author wants to say in one cut.
It is also essential that it matches well with the title.
The language in which the starting point is written also seems to be an important point in the design.
It is impressive that Almond, Kim JiYoung, Born 1992, and Pachinko all do not show their facial features.
If I recall correctly, it seems that people’s faces are not clearly shown in the cover design unless it is an autobiography or self-development book.
When the narrative in the book mainly talks about the psychology of the characters, they tend to erase the expression or show darkness.
The process of making hundreds of pages of text into one book cover seems quite interesting.
I will often look at many things and sharpen my perspective, and someday I will show off my skills.
Ah, one of the advantages of English books that I think of is that there are many paper books.
They are light and easy to read.
When I want to keep them preciously, I want to keep them in hardcover, and when I want to enjoy them lightly, I want to carry them around in paper books.
Books and writings have meaning because there are grateful people who read them. Today, too, I hit the keyboard hard with a grateful heart.
友達を見送るために仁川空港に行ってきた。
残念ながら空港で本を読める スペース が減っている感じだ。
一部の インフラ施設を修理しているので、本に割く スペース が少なかったからだろうか？
英語で韓国語を学び、韓国文化を英語で知らせる本があった。
韓国語会話の本はそれを見ながら外国人の友達と英語で会話してみたら面白いだろうと思った。
何より目立ったのは韓国語の有名小説を英語に翻訳して出版した本と英語で先に書いて韓国語に翻訳された本だった。
それらの本の半分以上は読み、その内容に対する雰囲気は覚えている。
本を取り出して広げることはなく、本の表紙の デザイン をじっくり見てみた。
「小さな土地の野獣たち、アーモンド、呪い ウサギ、92年生まれの キム·ジヨン、お母さんをお願い」 という ハングル でまず、
「パチンコ、H マート で泣く」 は英語で先に作られた本だ。
本の表紙の デザイン は、文章の中の主要場面や作家が言いたいことを縮約して1 カット で表現しなければならない。
タイトル ともよく似合わなければならないのは基本だ。
どの言語で書いたのか、また デザイン で重要な ポイント になる感じだ。
「アーモンド、92年生まれの キム·ジヨン、パチンコ」 ともに顔立ちを表示しないのが印象的だ。
記憶をたどると、自叙伝や自己啓発本でなければ、表紙の デザイン に人の顔をはっきりと現さないようだ。
本の中で人物の心理を主に語る時は、表情を消したり影を現す方だ。
数百ページ の文章を本の表紙1枚にする過程、かなり面白そうだ。
多くのことをよく見ながら私の眼目を高めて、いつかは実力を発揮してみようと思う。
ア、英語の本の長所の一つは、ペーパーブック が多いことだと思う。
軽くて負担がない。
大切にしたいときは ハードカバー で保管し、軽く楽しみたいときは ペーパーブック で持ち歩きたい。
本も文も読んでくれるありがたい人たちがいて、存在の意味がある。
今日も感謝の気持ちを込めて、カーボード を迫力あるように叩く。
다른 언어로 읽는 같은 책에 대한 이야기를 각자의 언어로 나누어 보면 그 또한 참 재미지겠다.
