나는 돌고래인가 독수리인가

내가 누군지 안다면 강점을 날카롭게 하는 일만 남았다

나의 부족한 점을 자꾸만 메꾸려고 했던 과거의 내가 있었다. 그 시절에는 노력하는 거 같은데도 매일 괴로웠고 나 자신을 좋아하기 힘들었다. 이건 자존감의 문제이기도 하지만 자기 강점 찾기가 제대로 이루어지지 않았다는 문제가 가장 크다고 할 수 있다.

강점을 강화하면 약점이 흐려진다. 약점이 흐려질 정도로 만들려면 강점을 '적당히' 강화시켜서는 안 된다. 미쳤다는 소리를 들을 정도로 날카롭게 강화시켜야 한다.

그런데 문제는 내 강점이 뭔지를 모르고 있는 사람이 많다는 것이다. 언제까지 나는 돌고래인데 하늘을 나는 독수리처럼 되고 싶다고 지느러미를 퍼덕대고 있을 것인가. 내가 돌고래인지 독수리인지 알아야 한다. 그래야 수영을 더 열심히 할지 더 멀리 날도록 날개를 단련할지를 알 수 있다.

자기가 누군지 모르고 다른 이들의 장점만 보고 부러워하고 자괴감을 느끼고 있는 사람이 너무 많다. 이건 사회적으로도 큰 손실이 아닌가라는 생각이 들기까지 한다.
