It took me a long time to learn where he came from. The little prince, who asked me so many questions, never seemed to hear the ones I asked him. It was from words dropped by chance that, little by little, everything was revealed to me.
The first time he saw my airplane, for instance (I shall not draw my airplane; that would be much too complicated for me), he asked me:
어린왕자가 어디서 왔는지 아는 데는 오랜 시간이 걸렸다. 나에게 많은 질문을 던졌던 어린 왕자는 내가 묻는 질문을 제대로 듣는 것 같지 않았다. 정말이지 우연히 조금 흘린 말이었다. 어린 왕자는 모든 것을 내게 털어놓았다.
내 비행기를 처음 봤을 때, (내 비행기를 여기서 굳이 그리진 않을 것이다. 그건 내가 그리기엔 좀 복잡해서), 어린 왕자가 내게 물었다.

"What is that object?"
"That is not an object. It flies. It is an airplane. It is my airplane."
And I was proud to have him learn that I could fly.
He cried out, then:
"What! You dropped down from the sky?"
"Yes," I answered, modestly.
"Oh! That is funny!"
And the little prince broke into a lovely peal of laughter, which irritated me very much. I like my misfortunes to be taken seriously.
"저 물체는 뭐지?"
"물체가 아니라 하늘을 날 수 있는 비행기야, 내 비행기."
그리고 난 하늘을 날 수 있다는 알려 주고, 자랑스러웠다.
그 아이도 그때 소리쳤다.
"오! 그럼 하늘에서 떨어진 거예요?"
"응." 나는 정중히 말했다.
"오! 재밌군요."
어린 왕자가 웃음을 터뜨렸고, 그게 나를 좀 열 화나게 했다. 내 불행을 신중해주기를 바랐다.

Then he added:
"So you, too, come from the sky! Which is your planet?"
At that moment I caught a gleam of light in the impenetrable mystery of his presence; and I demanded, abruptly:
"Do you come from another planet?"
But he did not reply. He tossed his head gently, without taking his eyes from my plane:
"It is true that on that you can't have come from very far away."
And he sank into a reverie, which lasted a long time. Then, taking my sheep out of his pocket, he buried himself in the contemplation of his treasure.
그때 어린 왕자가 덧붙였다.
"그럼, 아저씨도 하늘에서 온 건가요? 어느 별?"
그 순간, 그의 존재에 대한 불가사의하고 신비스러운 빛이 느껴였다. 나는 불쑥 물었다.
"네가 다른 별에서 왔다고?"
그러나 아이는 아무 말도 하지 않았다. 비행기에 눈을 떼지 않으면서 그는 고개를 끄덕였다.
"멀리서 온 것 같지는 않아요."
잠시 생각에 잠겼고, 시간이 지났다.
그 후 내가 좀 전에 그려준 그 양 그림을 호주머니에서 꺼내더니 마치 보물을 바라보듯 깊은 생각에 빠져들었다.

You can imagine how my curiosity was aroused by this half-confidence about the "other planets." I made a great effort, therefore, to find out more on this subject.
"My little man, where do you come from? What is this 'where I live,' of which you speak? Where do you want to take your sheep?"
"다른 별"에 대해 반신반의로 나의 호기심을 짐작할 수 있을 것이다. 그래서 이 말이 무슨 말인지 밝히고 싶었다.
"어린 친구, 넌 어디서 온 건데? 네가 말하는 내가 사는 곳이 무슨 뜻이야? 양을 어디로 데려갈 생각인 거지?"
After a reflective silence he answered:
"The thing that is so good about the box you have given me is that at night he can use it as his house."
"That is so. And if you are good I will give you a string, too, so that you can tie him during the day, and a post to tie him to."
잠시 생각에 잠기더니, 어린 왕자는 대답했다.
"밤에 지낼 집으로 삼기엔 내게 준 상자가 상자가 딱일 거 같아요."
"그야 물론이지. 네가 얌전하게만 굴면야, 난 낮에도 그 양을 매어 놓을 수 있는 끈도 그려주마. 덤으로 말뚝도 하나 그려줄게."

But the little prince seemed shocked by this offer:
"Tie him! What a queer idea!"
"But if you don't tie him," I said, "he will wander off somewhere, and get lost."
My friend broke into another peal of laughter:
"But where do you think he would go?"
"Anywhere. Straight ahead of him."
Then the little prince said, earnestly:
"That doesn't matter. Where I live, everything is so small!"
And, with perhaps a hint of sadness, he added:
이 제안에 어린 왕자는 놀라는 듯 보였다.
"붙들어 놓는다고요? 너무 괴상한 생각이시네요!"
"하지만 묶어 놓지 않으면, 어디론가 달아나서, 그럼 잃어버릴 수 있잖아."
어린 왕자는 웃음보를 터뜨렸지.
"가긴 어딜 가요?"
"어디든! 그냥 똑바로 가버리는 거야."
그때 어린 왕자는 진지하게 한 마디 했지.
"그건 중요하지 않아요, 내가 사는 곳은 아주 작단 말이에요!"
살짝 슬픈 표정으로, 덧붙였다.
