영화를 처음 보고, sycamore tree 너무 멋지다는 생각을 했었다.
첫사랑에 대한 로코임에도 계속해서 기억에 남고,
책으로도 읽어보고 싶던 것은 영상미 때문이 아니었을까 생각한다.
Julie의 입체적인 성격과 Bryce의 찌질함도 분명 한몫했을 것이다.
대화를 하지 않는 이 둘의 한 상황을 보는 서로 다른 이야기는 매력적이었다.
또, Bryce의 할아버지인 Chet과의 대화는 여러 가지를 생각하게 만든다.

책을 산 지 4년여 만에 드디어 다 읽었다.
영어를 공부하게 된 이유가 책과 영화를 번역과 자막 없이 보고 싶어서였는데
사실상 완독 한 첫 책이다.
지난 2주 동안 힘들게 결정을 하면서도
꾸준히 루틴으로 생각하며 읽으려고 했고,
여러 책중에서 이 책을 고른 것은
순간을 즐길 줄 알고, 자신에게 소중한 나무를 지키려고 하고, 주변 사람들에게 친절하게 대하며,
힘든 상황에서도 할 수 있는 최선을 다하려고 하는
Julie의 강함이 떠올랐고, 배우고 싶어서였을 것이다.
"Then I began to notice how wonderful the breeze smelled. It smelled like... sunshine. Like sunshine and wild grass and pomegranates and rain! I couldn't stop breathing it in, filling my lungs again and again with the sweetest smell I'd ever known"_ Julie

"If my girls quit laying altogether, that would be just fine with me."_ Julie
"She's the same as she's always been; you're the one who's changed... And, son, from here on out, you'll never be the same again." _ Chet
"And I can't help wondering, a hundred years from now will a kid climb it the way I climbed the one up on Collier Street? Will she see the things I did? Will she feel the way I did? Will it change her life the way it changed mine?"_ Julie
