24. But if you are careful to obey me, declares the LORD, and bring no load through the gates of this city on the Sabbath, but keep the Sabbath day holy by not doing any work on it,
27. But if you do not obey me to keep the Sabbath day holy by not carrying any load as you come through the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will kindle an unquenchable fire in the gates of Jerusalem that will consume her fortresses.’ ”
Sabbath has been considered to be a day of not doing anything except going to church for worshiping, and some groups insist that they should keep it on Saturdays, not Sundays. It has also been misunderstood in times of Jesus, so it was one of the main argumental issues of His doing good for the sick or even opening the eyes of the blind on the Sabbath.
I understand them a little bit because God's command for it seems very clear and strick like we have read it in the bible verses.
However, the problem is that they didn't understand the meaning of 'Holy', I guess. Making the day holy means differentiating from the days of everyday lives. Surely, the 6 other days should be holy as well, but God wants us to remember Him and honor Him even for a day a week by taking the day off like we should do offer at least a tenth of our earnings to Him, although they are all His.
I think that the core message on Sabbath is that He wants us, Christians, to live as gods, His holy sons, by obeying and honoring the Lord, the Father God, in memories of Sabbath, which is the holy day of many holy days.
